Your biggest problem will be the fuel and ignition.
Either convert to EFI with an aftermarket computer or get a gas research setup on it. This will likely need aftermarket ignition control as well. Expect to pay about $3k for either setup on top of the turbo costs. If you want to do it on the cheap then you are out of luck. I dont think those XF 3 speeds are very strong either so you will need a new trans. 2 pinion, 25 spline diffs FTL so you will need a new diff etc etc I would get a newer car than an XF to start with. EA's have heaps of advantages over XF's if you can get over the driving an EA part EB2 onwards are better again and cost SFA now. |

Pop over to xfalcon.com and ask there - quite a few of the fellas have turb'd their XFs, some big dollar, some not. A few guys have cited costs of $3-4K using second hand parts, or bits of Snort kits.
Like Dan said, a lot of people have switched to gas for ease of management - keep in mind the Govt. rebate available for gas conversions... He's probably right about starting with something newer though. But then again, X-series Falcons are totally rad... Cheers.

There is an XF falcon turbo running a suck through setup getting around melbourne. Its green, has the twinlight headlights, SVO rims and has the plates MPRESV (IIRC).
Suck through carbi setup can be done on the cheap if you knowhow to use a welder. If you want to be a tight a*** and keep it injected then a megasquirt will do KLR250 on xfalcon (used to be big around here) is the megasquirt master. Gas research setup will work as well and its works out relatively cheap cause of the LPG rebate but I'd avoid driving it in areas of high altitude. As I've heard its a b**ch of a thing to get running right over there. People say to avoid the monsta performance ebay turbo's. Since you're playing with pocket money I say take the punt. My brothers has held up over 5000kms on his VLT so far. Fab up a U pipe that fits to the stock exhaust manifold, fit a cheapish turbonetics wastegate (or again take the punt and get a monsta performance wastegate), intercooler (optional on a low boost setup) and you'll hit the ground running. It won't be the most powerfull setup but will be a nice fun setup. |
