Heat bags are in one word. s**t.
They keep your bay a little cooler but cook the s**t out of your bearings etc. i know id rather slightly higher bay temps than a turbo that has a very small life span Go make yourself a stainless heat sheild. will sheild all the componants from radiant heat but still let the turbo breath |

IIRC he was having overboost problems a while ago.
As mentioned, I think he has it all sorted now, and pulled 500+rwhp at the dyno day I organised. That car is very much a sleeper.

my opinion is that the dev5 would be a nice cam and head to build into a turbo.. apart from the high compression, which i would fix with chamber work. i would like a dev5 port job in mine, turbos LOVE to breathe
it seems big cams and turbo work very well together, one downfall is that you need a extremely well setup wastegate outlet..

i dont think the dev 5 cam is all that big.
it idles smooth, makes plenty of low down power. very good every day street cam for manual or auto and doesn't need a higher stall. i have 1 in my car and its great

if the comp is just under 10 to 1 it should work fine, anything will work really its just the tuning window with high comp is very small when you add boost, and once you start retarding the timing to account for the too high comp, the EGT's get really high, but it sounds like that setup is working very well. The more overlap the more it bleeds off the comp down low so that helps, but as already said it bleeds more boost out into the exhaust, so creates boost control probs if the gate isnt up to it. Chances are a camshaft with less overlap would nett higher figures lower in the rpm range, but possibly less peak output. Cams with larger overlap especially if its a split pattern favouring the intake side, will make the turbs respond much much faster, but also place greater requirement on the gate.

That car is very much a sleeper. nah damon, he got the gt3540 rebuilt professionally (the seals went IIRC)... and within 400km of the rebuilt turbo going on, it snapped the shaft... and the QLD mob fixing it (under warranty, since they rebuilt it) are taking their sweet a** time, cos they arent making any money off fixing it |

Being a LONG stroke motor the LSA is about right for turbocharging... 112 to 115 is about right...
Around 110 centreline is the goods too... Don't confuse turbo cams with blower cams... The blower cam goes better with more exhaust duration etc... Turbo likes less on exhaust but with plenty of lift... A cam is not such a big power gain until over 300 rwkw...Even then alittle bigger cam will make a huge difference at higher boost levels... A good turbo cam in most cases cannot be herd...Esp on 6 cylinders... This Crow cam worked VERY good with 378 rwkw on std head with double valve springs... 2222543 IN.24/68 EX.70/18 272 269 209 207 .500" .485" RPM range , N/A 1800 5500 Performance cam needs computer re calibration

There is no way that the dev5 cam has that much lift, my cam is around that lift and idles very differently to Steve's car. If it IS that much lift then the ramp up rates are stupidly high. I have doubles, steve doesn't and JMM don't consider them necessary. I'de say the dev5 is closer to 510-520 mark max.
