Go the 6 stronger block and can make more power without rebuild..Pluss if you blow one there's 100.000 of them at wreckers...

EBXR8380 makes a very good point. The windsor block is not real strong and is very much the weak link in supercharged 5.0L, and is the reason there arent too many mega-HP 5.0L out there. Better internals don't help becuase its the block itself that splits. Aftermarket blocks are around $3000 (??).
The 4.0L six block can handle waaay more power, with better rods pistons and a good balance job. My preference would still be for a supercharged V8, and heres how i am planning to do it... You should be able to pick up an AU1 XR8 for around $10K if you are patient, becuase people think they are ugly. AU1-on V8's had much better heads/manifold/MAF/injectors and is definitely worth the money over the E-Series... Buy the Vortech kit from CAPA minus the FMU, in-line T-Rex, and Memmaster chip for ~$7000 (full kit is 8000) Buy a Walbro GSS-341 255lph in-tank pump for about $180. Buy some 2nd hand '03/04 Cobra injectors (38 pound), and new 90mm Lightning MAF from the states for ~$AUS4-500 shipped. Buy the CAPA Flash tuner and get a custom tune from Batten's or Bluepower. If you've got some extra cash, you should be able to piece together a pretty decent exhaust for $1600. Thats how much my Pacemaker comps, XForce 2.5" cats, and 3" mandrel cat back cost me. It would push your total budget, but that setup has the potential to make more than the block can handle, and put you well into the 12's, as well as being a pretty tame/economical/reliable daily driver. Another way to go would be to get a clean EB XR8 for say $5000, swap in an AU V8 motor out of a wreck ~$2500, buy a Kenne Belle Blowzilla/Flowzilla kit from the States ~$AUS7000 shipped, get some 42 pound EV1 injectors, 90mm Lightning MAF and a twEECer w/tune from Battens. Anyway, just thinking out loud.... |

Why not fit some Edelbrock, Holley, TFS heads on rebuilt E.B may only requre re-ringing etc??Bloody GOOD ballance. RPM ll inlet ??? Any s/chargher other than powerdyn and your laughing..With injectors as above only Ev 1 36's are around $120/ 42's $200 U.S or so s/h and maf...Latter model blocks are even thinner, especially the runout ones for Explorer etc...

What model of car are you leaning towards? What do you want from the car? What do you want it to do? How do you wan't it to behave? What is your driving style and what is your prefference of engine? Ask yourself that before you begin.
20k will give you a lot of options. You could have a 9 second EA 6 cylinder if you were into strip cars. You could also have a pretty high powered EB V8 which could make a half decent burnout car. You could even have a well ballanced AU V8 (mild motor with a vortech) which would be more than enough for an everyday driver and it would sound the part. A trap for a lot of guys is that they wan't their car to be an involving drive with mega power and all the bells and whistles. You only need 250rwKw (maybe less) to be able to torch tyres from a rolling start with an auto. Anything more than that begins to become a bit too much for a daily driver. Both the V8 and the 6 cylinder are more than capable of making that sort of power without breaking the bank. Just remember. Of that 20k how much do you plan on buying the car for then how much do plan on spending on mods? |

Yeah, another thing to think about is that to get to 200 250wkws from a 6 is the easy part, 250 to 350 is just more boost and more fuel, easy, but then the drive train breaks, the motor breaks and the tyres never grip... 4000 auto build, LSD, wider rims/tyres... there goes anouther 10grand to use the power...
As an example, my ED owes my 10grand and that for everything on it, thats cheap for a decent looking car that simply flys and handles ok, I hardly drive it but its there ready for a thrash... good cheap fun |
