Can someone tell me why I have never sen this anywhere else?
I am curious as to the downsides of this type of setup. I would shelter the intake a bit more, to reduce splash from wheels etc.. But aside from that, reduce in engine bay temp, increased room in engine bay resulting in easier servicing etc... Just wondering what peoples thoughts were... Sorry about the picture, just quickly took it with my phone from a magazine.

I'm aware of 2 BA V8's that had 'mid mount' turbo setups like that.
and i've got one to install on my BA V8 Ghia. water is the biggest concern, along with the fact that its normally not intercooled, although can be. so water injection or similar is a good idea.

So all in all a good idea or not?

is the turbo mounted at the read of the car? i've seen a ba fairmont mounted underneath, because of minimal room under bonnet. be alot of pipe work

Yep, that black tube on the right of the turbo is the tail shaft with the diff being in the bottom right of the photo... It is a ute by the way. This is under the tray...

Street Machine did an article on rear mounted twin turbo's on a Chevelle a couple of issues back. Was a big block and there wasn't alot of room under the hood and he didn't want the clutter of two turbo's, piping ect.. Looked like a decent enough setup, but can you immagine the pipe work? Better than no boost I guess

Never thought about that... Would be pretty average.
Hmmm still like the idea just for something different...

One of my old bosses had a twin turbo crewman, turbos were located near the diff and it went pretty hard. Not sure what the kw was as he had it on low boost so he claimed.

It won't make as much power as a conventional setup due to the sizing needed to spool reasonably quickly, but yes, they can and do work.

Obviously it would have to go better than a stocker... just saying I think that's the reason that you don't see many of them. It's a compromise I believe, still completely viable.
That and it seems big in america.... unlike our politicians, some of us don't just do things because ameri-cans do...

hmmm... yeah i guess its a big compremise just to keep a clean open engine bay. if i had a v6 ute, would be a nice look to have it twin turbo'ed under a nice tray... but i suppose the falcons have enough room in the engine bay to need not worry about not enough room...

these setups have always confused me with regards to oil drain, surely you would be blowing oil seals all the time???

these types of set ups need a scavenge pump to return the oil back to the engine..
