If you can get a good low kms or 0 kms v8 for 3.5k id go the 8 and stroke it for another 2.5k!
Its be 10x more drivable and insurance should still be more friendly than the puffed up 6! Also the 8, stroked, sounds damn awesome. When im off Ps id love to stroke mine.(the v8 im tlking about)

I dont get how you guys keep saying the 8 will be more driveable. Have you ever driven a turbo 6?
My car drives exactly like standard when it is off boost. |

2400rpm and how is a stock car not as driveable? My mum would be right at home in my car. Im not too sure about a lumpy stroker V8. I wouldnt have wanted her to drive my old clevo in the wet. It was a handful at low revs therefore less 'driveable' in my opinion. That had less grunt than my EB too.
Even if you go a stroker V8 wont the heads still need to be upgraded along with everything else to suit or bugger all power will be made? I cant see it being better bang for buck in the end. Does someone want to give a run down of costs of buying a stroker kit, getting the machining done and upgrading all the heads and things to say 250rwkw worth? My car should be running that (fingers crossed) in the next month with a cam change and more boost. |

[quote="Waggin"]$6k on a Turbo I6 - that wont even cover a good ECU.
s**t. Ive based my price on a EMS stinger (a little more if I go a 8860). This price includes everything I can foresee (including an oil catchment system, injectors, clamps, reg, etc). Ill come in under 6k with change for a tank of Optimax. Insurance isnt a problem (Ive spoken to them already and in fact the premium is no different v8 or turbo six. It just depends how much I want to increas the agreed value by). Ill admit this doesnt include any internal work but Ill just fit a second hander when she goes bang and then think about building a stronger bottom end. I get the impression some people are biased one way or the other and thats fine. I used to be a loyal v8 fan but I dont want to make a decision based on emotion. Everyone makes good arguments for their case but I think I am starting to lean toward turbo 6. It seams more logical and a lot less like hard work. Cheers guys. |

The whole driveability issue comes from the pulling power down low in the rev range. Under boost a turbo 6 with low compression is a gutless piece of s**t whereas a V8 can still move pretty quick especially when it comes into its cam range. I suppose if your mother was to drive your car then you would want it to be just a bit more gutless than a stocker.

No offence dude, but this is 2005 and the turbo lag days are long long gone... My turbo 6 retains standard motor, thus being standard comp ratio so it drives as a stocker would on 1/8th throttle... anymore at any rpm is a different story. Dont get me wrong, I love V8s and have owned a few 351s when I was young, but with modern fast spooling turbos and awesome engine managment available today, why wouldnt you add a turbo to your 6?? |

Dont worry Martin! Countdown to boost in the Waggin has begun.
I think there was an option missing from this thread. Forced V8 Its a bit hard to compare Forced 6 against an NA 8

Yeah i bit my tongue on that one, lol. I doubt my peak power would be even close to what chef/dan putting out but the power curve looks a bit like ayers rock, about 80% of total power avail below 3000rpm (boost on a centrifugal charger is linear.... power output from the engine is not). Driveability is so good it makes me sick!!! Some serious insurance issues with this option tho.

I thought the same thing, dont get me wrong i love V8's but if it's a NA 8 or a forced 6 iwould take the forced 6 anyday. 4.9l EF futura: i'll take you for a spin, but why would you need it with a supercharged V8, i might dissapoint you.

I've driven a few stock and mild VL turbo's and the only thing that makes those things seem to go is the 3.45:1 rear end. Off the line my XF smashes them but when they hit boost its all over.
