I bought a boat with a diesel 6 cyl turbo
the standard boost is 7 psi but there was an optional version with 14psi I'm new to the turbo scene, so can someone tell me how you go about it? the best engine torque curve/economy is at about 2700rpm (so this is likely what ill keep it at) and redlines at about 3600 rpm |

What sort of motor and boat ?? A friend in N.Z has a Nissan Diesel turbo motor in his boat and it flies!!! Strangely enough its the 3.3 turbo beats most std'sh V8s and only uses $20 fuel on all day trip....
Does it have intercooler ? You could fit a water to air intercooler.. Is this turbo fitted with a wastegate? If so all you need is a bleed off valve that fits on your wastegate line...Around $100.00 Also make sure there is NO restriction on turbo dump pipe...

is a 27' flybridge cruiser 165hp volvo penta (yea i know!)
apparently 6-7ltr/hr @ ~8knots & 11knots max, so its pretty slow & looking to spice it up without blowing it up! not sure about wastegate? I dont know how to upload pic attachments yet any info on water to air intercoolers it was an option to have a aftercooler fitted ?? I dont know how much boost is at 2700 but if it was possible for a blowodd valve would this increase boost at this rev range on mainly only on full revs? |

the bleed off valve increases the maximum boost the turbo will deliver, motor size VS turbo size will decide at what RPM's this happens at

You could fit a water to air intercooler from Subaru's turbo engine or similar for example? Seeing as you no doubt have plenty of water...Need closer look at that turbo to see if they use a wastegate to control boost? Either that or they fit a turbo JUST big enough for the engine...So it won't or cannot overboost...A boat that size takes a s**t of power to get up and going...My Bro has charter boat in Bay of Islands..Waima Star name of boat..It has a V8 turbo Cat 350 h.p and does about 22 knots...It has been de-rated in power as its a charter boat...

It looks like they made the compressor housing "small" so there is no chance of over boosting...Either look around for another turbo or upgrade that one...??

so there is no wastegate on it?
how would I upgrade this one (by adding a wastegate??) what size would this one be / what size should I be after (3.6L / opt @ 2700)? if it is a small turbo, wouldn't that would be better to spool up at mid revs? |
