Now, i know i'm most likely gonna stir up a hornets nest with this one, but here we go anyway. I'm picking up an EA manual this weekend :D . Now i'm tossing up a few options (Worked N/A Motor, AU Conversion, forced induction, or a combination). Now the question is this. Pros and Cons of a forced induction conversion, and supercharger Vs Turbo. I'm toying with an SC14 'charger because if i remember correctly they have a compressor style clutch, which means i can have a "Go baby go" switch on the dash. anyone care to offer suggestions, and if Ya think turbo would be better, why? never done a job like this before, so any and all advice would be greatly appreciated

Most people will tell you to go turbo. What's your budget and how much rwkw are you aiming for? It would be better to start with an AU block/engine and build up from there.

ATM, The budget is limited, but this is something i'm talking about doing over time, so if i have to save for a while before i do it i'm not too worried. I do have a wrecked AU that i was given, so i guess the motor is coming out for a freshen up and then use it as the base for the project. (Has abnout 160xxxkm on it)
Now, if the SC14 is a tad on the small side, any other suggestions? i really like the idea of the compressor style clutch on the charger so that i can turn it on and off as i want.

All of the suitable superchargers for I6 motors, that I've seen, are permanently driven. Sort of defeats the purpose of having one if you only want to use it sometimes... IMO listen to Troyman and some of the other guys on here who've had lots of experience in supercharging and turbos, or you may end up being disappointed after spending heaps of cash.

Cool cool. i don't know much regards to forced induction, which is why i ask. any suggestions on a suitable charger then? personally i am leaning towards a supercharger over a turbo, but that's just me

I think the "on/off" switch is a little too MadMax and as mentioned not really useful..

But go charger definately..

No turbo lag, less piping, and your right foot is the GO BABY GO switch

That an M90 charger? i'm in two minds ATM, As i have been going over CHEF's post about a DIY Turbo system, and it doesn't look that difficult. See why i like the idea of a charger is it's constant boost, and that way if the wife is driving it, there's no suprise when boost comes on.
And in comparing the two, how difficut is a supercharger conversion as opposed to a turbo system?

Thats why I like the idea, althoughIi havent driven a charged car, I have driven a turbo, and it felt awkward and a little scary when you do need that small poke of power it dosnt come on for a second then boosts you off..

A lady driving her husbands SMICK VL calais turbo launched it into a tree at the kmart carpark a few years back, Lag and its surprise being the culprit..

From what I understand though you simply be gentle on the throttle and a S/C is pretty easy to handle, and much more responsive.

I havent done any installs but Ive seen a mates Escort with charger attached, and it looks a bit simpler than a turbo setup, no exhaust side work needed, and less piping. Id imagine the fuel upgrades would be similar as well.

AU 4.0L with a supercharger sounds like the plan then! now to start saving for and collecting goodies to make it happen. Any suggestions regards supercharger would be much appreciated, and any advice for anything i might need?

The Charger is a Lysholm AX1600.

A PD Charger properly set up is not on boost all the time. It can be if you want but not the best way to do it. You fit a Vac operated bypass valve which only cuts in when thevac drops allowing boost. This way the car operates like an NA until you plant it, then you have boost straight up.

Centrifical Chargers operate like a turbo but don't generate the same power.

Fuel system upgrade is very similar if not the same as a Turbo. Bigger fuel pump, larger injectors, improved fuel Reg. I am using the BA/BF XR6 Turbo reg.

Fitting a PD chrager is not as simple a people think. A lot of the work will be custom to be done properly.

I have 2 M90 Chargers here that are excess to my needs as well as a partially build intake. You could mount the PD Remote from the intake and use the EA-ED Log manifold.

Happy to give any advice that I can.
