hey guys!
just wondering if its ok to drive without the turbo connected to the intake (free spinning) the reason i ask is i want to drive about 20kms to the exhaust shop to get the piping fitted and drive it home with it all fitted up. opinions?

Only issue I can see is what stops the turbo from spinning too fast or anything like that (I assume that the bearings in the turbo have an RPM limit)? Having not done a turbo set up myself, my knowledge is limited, but isn't the turbo stopped from spinning too fast by the wastegate opening? And the waste gate opens at a certain pressure. But if the turbo is not connected then your not getting that pressure built up to open the waste gate. Also, without that pressure building up, the turbo would have less or no resistance, which might cause it to spin faster again?
In saying that though whether or not the turbo spinning like that is an issue or not I don't know. Perhaps if you just keep the revs low on the way etc it won't be a concern at all. Regardless, I'd make sure you have an air filter on the turbo though as you don't want foreign matter getting in their on the way. |

DO NOT DRIVE WITHOUT INTAKE PIPING. You will kill the turbo.

There is no boost going into engine.. Take it easy you'll be fine!!!
Plenty of times the intercooler pipes have come off cars and didn't have turbo issues.. As we know rpm alone doesn't spool a turbo.. But take it easy all the same!! Assuming the oil lines etc are connected !!!
