This isn't practical nor am i going to try it, just want to know if it would work.... Basically you have a high pressure air chamber in your car somewhere, lets say boot with a regulator on it say 20 psi (5.3psi boost-i think), with the tank at about 20bar (about 290psi). a couple of solenoids that close a valve from your air intake to engine and take in this high pressure air from your tank increasing your air/fuel intake. i can hear people saying...there is a smaller solution...turbo/supercharger rough calcs show about 20-30seconds total running time, so not long..... Question,under normal circumstances N/A engine.... when air is taken into the cylinder....it fills the whole cylinder at normal air pressure (14.7psi) meaning that for a 4 lt engine 4000/6 = .66 = 666cm^3....no? |

It could work in a short burst, in theory but I don't like the idea of 20 bar in my cylinders at bottom dead center and a normal compression ratio. I reckon the least worry would be snapped head bolts/studs, bent rods and a shattered crank.

re read......a regulator giving about 20psi to your cylinders, 20bar is the tank pressure so it holds a heap of air.....
20psi would = 5.3psi boost....that was my thought, supercharger style figures here no high pressure s**t |

Well that would work but It would be much more complex to rig up than a basic turbo or supercharger setup. What do you plan on filling your boost box with? Plain old air or pure oxygen? This is where it starts to get real interesting.

Hmmmm now IIRC, Back in the 50's and 60's they used pure oxygen injection in a simular way to how you would use NOS.
290psi is a lot of preasure just think of all the safety features you would have to implement for this to work. Also how are you going to fill the tank? a standard air compressor would not be able to do it. I had a 3pot 5Hp 120Lt tank compressor and that could only get to 125psi. |

Might want to have a look at that. The french have been developing a compressed air car over the last few years. The pressure in their strorage tank is 300Bar (approx 1500psi). |

dont tell me about the air car, had to do a thermo project on it at uni!! never want to see that thing again. nah its pretty clever. ridiculous pressures tho

The weight of the tank would probably outweigh any benefiets. I think it would get more interestig when filled with something other than air.

Well in regards to it being filled with pure oxygen. You know why guys use nitrous rather than pure oxygen? Keep the cylinder temps down otherwise they'd just melt pistons.
