yeh i didnt know he was on here too. i just remember seein him on ff. awesome!
if i were to do it, id want about 300rwkw at under 6000rpm anything over is a bonus. namely because thats all i need, and coz i dont wnna split the block. small turbos would be fine.. another question is what the cost is initially..

buy yourself performance ford mag with green car on front, (latest issue) has a complete article, with pictures of a turbo install on an el v8, although it is a single turbo

A single turbo will be more than enough to get 300rwkw out of a 5L.
That will be pretty close to the limits of the block as well. I wouldn't be pushing it too much further.

yeh thats it.. i duno, i just prefer twin terbos on a v motor. n all that extra exhaust piping around the engine for a single just turns me off that

I think a big single (if that's what you want to call it) would be a bit easier.
Start off with 4 into 1 headers on each side (I think you can use aftermarket headers just mounted backwards, can someone correct me on this? Then you just have to make a 2 into 1 collector then run a pipe from that collector to where you want to mount the turbo. Gen 3 guys have been using our GT35/40R as a single turbo setup for a while now with a boost threshhold from 1500odd rpm and no noticeable restriction at redline. Also intercooler design and piping is much simpler on a single turbo setup compared to a twin. If I remember correctly EB was quoted a while back as saying that if he had his time again he'd go single. |

Yeah most of the fox body mustang guys just turn the headers around. Could probably use stock ones, but they flow about as well as a constipated dog.
Keep revs low on the standard block if you're chasing that much power. Graeme (EBXR8380) knows everything you'll need to know.

I have a mate with a single turbo LS1. The whole crossover pipe idea is quite good I thought. Makes about 350rwkw. Will be good for a lot more once it is tuned.

Would a single turbo V8 have a much different exhaust note compared to a twin. i.e a single 4-6" pipe from the back of the turbo right through to the rear. Wouldn't it drone a bit much?

Not really since it is a larger turbo .
I dont know whether its of interest but in the ls1 world (holden v8) there are quite a few kits available in single and twin turbo form. 7k for a single and around 13k for a twin. Alot of the ones i've seen use a Holset truck huffer and from there its exhaust to the back and its easier to plumb in to the intercooler. The general consensus is if your chasing huge power go the twins, If not then the single is the way to go. And lag isnt a problem even with a large single as a v8 generates a fair bit of exhaust gases.
