Looks nice
Is that all we get but 'my car has a BA motor'? Management? Rocker cover height/ bonnet clearance?

Some how I doubt it. But if you decide to piss the VCT off I'll buy the phasers and solenoids off you. I've been trying to chase down these for the best part of a year but no one wants to sell them. Its For the formula SAE team. I need something so I can model a VCT unit for a CBR 600 motorbike engine |

What are the phasers and solonoids worth?
I think I might be disconnecting them on my car. |

i'm also up to my neck in the BA swap. Got this from a fellow x-falcon member
"the VCT is extremely sneaky. it uses a PID controller in the PCM (computer), which feeds a constant voltage signal, with variable current (0 to 1 A, 600 mA nominal), 175 Hz duty cycle. the oil control valve determines a equilibrium point (each valve is different), feeds that back to the PCM for use as its midpoint. to emulate this, you basically have to remake the PID controller and interface. i strongly suggest wiring up the module (PCM) and running that." will post this over at performance forums with all muy other ramblings.

Is it easier just to disconnect it?
What are the benefits of using the dual VCT? Is it a massive improvement or not really worth mentioning? |

geez we're forum s***!
well i have heard some conflicting advice. Over at http://forums.nizpro.com.au/phpbb/viewtopic.php?t=1061 i asked Hi there, can anyone enlighten me as to the operation of the variable cam timing on the BA engines? how many degrees does each cam advance by? do they operate individually of each other or at the same time? do they advance by a set amount of degrees or incrementally? what voltage is required to activate the cams? If someone is able to provide a few pics and a decent explanation i would be very grateful. Simon Gishus replied: Mechanically the cams have 30degs of maximum movement and can be programed to move in single degrees. In Ba they move as a pair in F6's and BF's they can be moved separately. I've never measured the drive current. Hope this helps _________________ Proprietor Nizpro Turbocharging Bayswater Victoria. (03) - 9761 1522 ****************** Then i "heard" (from an unreliable source) that the VCT only operates during the first 30 seconds of operation to get the catalytic convertor up to temp. cough *s**t* cough. I don't believe it. No way would they go to all that engineering for nothing. Obviously advancing the cam through out the entire rev range would be advantageous. This is just another "black art" to be unlocked. Wiring up the factory ecu would be the smartest move. Unfortunately i'm not quite to that point of electrical know how. My Haltech Ig5 will run the show hopefully. The solenoids have two wires each. Here is a pic looking at the motor from the flywheel end with the coil cover removed.

Disconnect FTW.
The stock computer can be made to work but you will need the flash tuner to do it. I dont want to pay through the nose everytime I do a mod and need a reflash. |

What are the benefits of using the dual VCT? Is it a massive improvement or not really worth mentioning? It just extends the RPM range of the cams. As the RPM rises the inlet cam gets retarded and the exhaust cam gets advanced IIRC. Gives you a nics fat torque curve as well. And it continuously varies. The AU VCT was a load of s**t IMO. It is a 2 state system (on or off, no in between) which comes on at 3000rpm. The phaser relies on spring pressure to force the vanes back when the solenoid is switched off. Very jerky and not linear at all. The BA/BF system is a dream. Could you get onto simon from Nizpro and ask him if they kept the VCT with the high lift cams fitted to their 1000hp monster? Well from ford the phasers are worth a s**t and they are pretty reluctant to sell them over the counter. Every wrecker on the east coast of australia refuses to sell them, even on a blown donk. They get better value just rebuilding the blown donk and selling it off complete. Darren from FGT was willing to give me a complete dead head for 500 bucks around 6 months ago but the uni didn't want to reimburse me for that much money so I"m going at it alone for the time being. peter @ rank has used the boost control output on a wolf 3d to do VCT control, not sure about doing dual VCT tho?
