As the RPM rises the inlet cam gets retarded and the exhaust cam gets advanced IIRC.

The BF does that, but not the BA. The BA cams are phase-locked, ie they move together (BOTH retard) so overlap doesn't change.

The BF has variable overlap across the range of I6 engines - hence the BF VCT's different acronym DIVCT - "Dual Independent Variable Cam Timing". This is largely the reason why the BF's torque peak is 500rpm lower than the BA's while its power peak is 250rpm higher.

When the BA Typhoon was released, the fine print in the press release announced that its engine had DIVCT which up to that time hadn't been a feature of the BA I6. Some months later I saw an article in a mag (maybe Zoom or PFM) where the mag had bought the Advantage II software used to create tunes for the CAPA flash boxes. They custom-tuned a NA I6 and a 'Phoon, and found to their amusement that the 'Phoon's factory tune didn't use the variable overlap capability... the camshafts were still phase-locked LOL.

... so much of an eye-catcher that it'll definitely need an engineer's certificate to avoid a flock of canaries LOL.
