Turbo cams have almost NO overlap!! Unlike supercharger cams...There is presure on exhaust manifold. Overlap will kill boost at low rpm as it will blow straight though at lower boost levels...
Keep atleast 114 lob seperation and 110 centreline on inlet.. And you'll be fine...
Turbo's do NOT requre big cams to make power!!!
Lift etc but not overlap...

ok, just a quick update. I've been a bit lazy keeping you guys informed on what’s going on.. and half my post go lost last time.. :(

I've got all the engine together and in the car.
Snort Performance were still in the process of getting all my bits together when I had the engine ready to got, so they lent me a second hand setup so that I could get the engine run in (big thanks to Geoff from Snort for going out of the way to help me out.)

I tried to paint the little ford writing blue on the front of the engine with little success as you can see in the photo..
Image

Nice new crow roller adjustable timing gear...
Image

The tricky bit was trying to line up the gearbox and not punch a hole in the air con condenser, I ended up damaging the heater hose connection in the process. a bit of an inconvenience.... :?
Image

The snail was helping out heaps until he got into the bundy... :D
Image

New turbo pics in next post... :D

Ok, so I've done about 1500k's in around 3 days (gota get ready for the spring nats) Pulled the loaner turbo system off and returned it to Snort performance, and picked up the new turbo manifold turbo and wastegate..

I'll take some more pics of the turbo and manifold off the car tomorrow, but here are a couple of them just sitting on at the moment.

The plan is to run 4 inch from the turbo inlet around past the water bottle thingy, down through the guard to a pod filter that will sit just behind the drivers side air duct in the bumper. At the moment I have a larger auto oil cooler setup there, I might end up moving it to the front of the radiator, will see tomorrow..

I installed an engine oil cooler on the other side to help keep the engine oil at a reasonable temp, to protect the engine and turbo from any damage. It was a bit more expensive then planed, but I think it is well worth it.

To say the least I’m very very impressed with the quality of the turbo and manifold. These photos don’t do them any justice at all, They look fantastic in person.

Just had to show off my nice shiny 10mm leads....:D
Image

The oil cooler adapter, It fits between the engine block and the oil filter, and diverts oil off to the cooler and back. Very neat
Image

The oil cooler itself, It looks a bit dodgy, but its secured very tightly.. :)

Turbo and manifold

Front of the turbo... this thing is so large small children could get sucked into it :D

More pics tomorrow, I've got a friend coming around to help me with the new intercooler piping from the turbo, the dump pipe, the 4inch inlet piping, and hopefully some heat shields and the plumb back blow off valve...

Cheers
Tim

after all the engine work, you might wanna invest in a better braking system.. after all you do wanna live to tell the story. :)

To tell the truth, I dont think the ford setup is all that bad, I've put a set of slotted rotors on the front and back, and I find it pulls up really well. Whenever I drive on the street I drive in a very responsible(legal)manner. I’m not going to be driving around the streets at 200k’s, so in reality the power of the engine will have no bearing on the braking system. I could be cursing in a datto 120y or my falcon at 100ks and need to brake quickly, it wouldn’t matter that my car has 10 times the power then the 120y, it is still going to pull up quicker.
I think the falcon setup will work fine for most drivers, if your going to take it out on the track and do 10 or more laps then you might need to start upgrading the brakes.
