Hi guys,
got a quick question, a mate is looking at buying an XR6 turbo but he wants to know what boost u can run on a standard car safely without any other mods? i Know they run 6psi (BA xr6 turbo im talking about), but he wants to know if and what you can boost it to without causing any damage on just a standard engine? cheers

50-60 psi.........
seriously, they run that boost because it's reliable you clown. if you want more boost then beef it up. otherwise they would run 20psi from the factory. and if it's a ba xr6turbo, forget about it, they have standard internals. you will have more joy in the bf with typhoon/gas internals but will still struggle to keep it together with high boost. tell the wanker to go buy a dryline it would look better with a tree in the bonnet.

you cant just "up the boost" the computer knows and will shut down the engine.. you need to get a custom tune done, or you can get a generic tune on a flash tuner box..
A standard BA engine will prob only take 10ish psi on the standard valve springs..

The only mods done to my engine (BA series1) are valve springs and it happily runs on 15.5psi... its all in the tune

I think not. sure there is not a set of siemens in there to? yes alot of it is on the tune but you need the hardwear to support it as well. stock injectors are max duty cycle about 10 -12 psi. 15.5psi on stock injectors = no way.

But as far as actual engine mods go the only thing i've done to the internals is nizpro valve spings..

'happily' at 15psi lmfao...... nothing likes running an extra atmospere through it believe it or not. its all happy till u turn the bottom end inside out.

The BA bottom ends can handle 330rwkw. But if the tune is s**t the engine will pop, and of course if you drive it like you stole it, it wont last as long either, but that goes for anything boosted or N/A

then they will handle 330 intermitantly...? reliable motors are designed to turn it all day everyday. if running 330rwkw on the street in a next to stock ba was thats cheap and easy everyone would be doing it.ba's are cheap enough these days.
sorry the first post might have been over-cooked but i hate people telling everyone they can get 330rwkw out of their next to bog stock daily driven falcon for next to nothing with them anticipating it staying in one piece.

My EB runs 12 psi day in day out not a problem just a good tune. but if you drive it like a wanker it's going to throw a leg out of bed.

im not running a ba turbo engine..
but im running about 11.5 psi into a std au vct engine and its making 200rwkw not intercooled and the ba xr6t injectors are running 100% duty and is just within safe afr,s.. i dont know how long the au engine will last but the engine has been thrashed for the last 7 months with a bad tune and is still good...lol.. |

thanks for the replies guys.
Im aware you cant just "boost" it up, i was referring to a flash tune and what boost itl run with just standard internals, i thought it would be around 8-10psi safely. I told him the least he would want to do is valve springs because their probably the first thing that will crack. thanks

No matter how much booost you run at the end of the day if you cant get the power down to the ground whats the point of turning the boost up so high and risking blowing up your engine and Tranny?

yeah true, dunno if you can do it but it would be good to controll when boost comes in and at what psi, like 6psi to 3000rpm and 3000rpm and up it would go to 8psi. Probly make getting off the line easier.
