Turbosmart make a specific one for it, which looked pretty good. I don't know any further details, but might be able to find it on there site.

If you want a BOV to preserve your turbo then fit the highest flowing you can e.g. vortech mondo.

Whats the point of BOV? I know bugger all about turbo stuff. Doesnt the factory fit them?

yes, they have a factory turbo. most common to fit an after market one so you can get a louder noise.
a BOV vents the pressure between the turbo and TB when the throttle is closed.

lol, and here I was thinking the wastegate and BOV were the same, and this is after reading the article in turbo mustangs.com

Teh turbo blow off valve release the air back into the intke system where an aftermarket one generally vents it externally which is highly illegal

where abouts in the air-intake system does it usually vent it off to (like the airbox?) any advantages of venting it externally.

Anywhere back infront of the turbo or supercharger is fine. Can get some aftermarket blow off valves that vent back (I think it's more comonly called plum back) and also vent atmospheric, such as a Turbosmart unit I have sitting here, it first vents back, but if boost is larger than normal goes atmospheric. Position of the plum back can be important in cars with a MAF, as if you send the air back to infront of the MAF it then gets counted/measured again as it travels past for the second time. It gets complicated and I don't understand it all. |

the maf problem comes from this: if you back off the throttle, the air normally flowing through the maf is directly relative to the air flowing through the engine, IF you back off the throttle with a BOV venting to atmosphere, the maf will continue to see a lot of airflow (since the turbo is still spinning, and sucking air through the maf) BUT, that air is going straight through the bov, NOT the engine, therefore, with an overly high maf reading, and a lot less air actually making its way into the cylinders, you get an overfuelling issue

the next question possibly??
does my xr6t have a MAF?? no it doesnt, it has a MAP sensor, which reads air pressure from inside the inlet manifold, and no amount of venting can cause it to read funny, since, air pressure inside the manifold, will always be relative to air passing into the cylinders

I am pretty sure its also there to stop your throttle body from bending warping, although with the amount of boost that the XR6T runs this shouldent be too much of a prob. |

I've head of a couple of monster HP cars that have bent their throttle bodies even when they have been running 2 BOV's

jesus that's crazy, but the throttle is always opened a little bit so when not accelerating after boosting up, would your car keep pushin a bit?

i saw eddie tassones twin turbo 383 blow the top tank off the intercooler when backing off on dyno even with 2 bov's
