Just something queer I was thinking about. What do people do when they have installed the tubro system (or supercharger I guess would be the same) and then need to get it tuned up and have the fuel system done?
e.g. Joe, buys a Stage 3 Snort Performance kit + intercooler and blow off valve, installs it all himself, but can't run the car because he hasn't had the fuel regulator and all that done and tuned. So what's he do? Have the car towed? Or disconnect the turbo from the intake pipe and drive like that to the place?

Run the car with i/c pipe off or blow off valve removed so there's NO chance of making boost..IMO you need more to control fuel etc...

I drove mine around for 2 weeks with a stage 4 snort kit on it and no fuel system mods at all besides the walbro pump. I have an air/fuel ratio gauge for safety but it appeared as though the EDs have a lean cut out built into the ecm (not sure on other models). So with all that done a ran around for 2 weeks getting roughly 6psi boost until lean out. I since recieved the fuel pressure reg and am now getting 10psi with no drama. I will be getting the EMS I have at home fitted and tuned by Joe in the next few weeks. Hopefully that will improve my woefull fuel economy of 24lts per 100klm.

That can cause dramas also. I know with my experience with trucks that a charge air leak can cause the turbo to overspeed causing turbo explosions of magnificant proportions. The same would surely apply to smaller turbos etc.

Thats a Question i kinda wondered about.
Once i get the Supercharger setup done, i've still gotta get it to the place i decide to tune it at. I can't really disconnect it , cause it will be running with the power steering...etc on the same pulley.

S i was thinking of getting it towed to the place. I mean i don't want to harm the motor driving it half and hour to where i need to get it tuned.

Would you reckon towing it would be the best way?

you can disconnect the S/C, just use the factory belt so that it doesnt drive the S/C

Haven't any of you guys babied a car around like you had an egg on the dashboard or something. Very light throughtle and steering inputs will get you anywhere without a tow truck. Sure you might look like an old granny but its cheaper than a tow and you shouldn't risk any engine damage.

CAPA setups for the V8 run blower on a seperate belt. If you can live without power steering (have done it MANY times) you can drive around without blower (remember to plug BOV up as it will draw unfiltered air without the blower pushing air thru intake)...

When i fitted mine i had to wait about 2 weeks for the chip... drive it around with light throttle and you wont come onto boost... essentially runs like a stock motor until you step on the loud pedal.

Dave - for the vortech setup, just drive it carefully to the shop... no rpm > 2500 and DO NOT step into the throttle (its when manifold vac goes to near-atmospheric the BOV will close and pressure will start building in manifold).

Yeah exactly, you will not see any boost till 2500-3000rpm so just drive it to the tuner lightly and there wont be any problems.

Nice.
Thanks guys, i wasn't sure about that or not. I thought it may be ok to run it off boost, but i wanted to be 100% sure this would be ok.
I'd rather pay $50 for a tow, than a couple fo grand for a motor.
Better to be safe than sorry.....

Cheers, Dave

Just make sure you get a good mechanic to tune the thing. After I installed my kit it took it down to a tuner that was apparently pretty good and on the way home after the tune it blew the head gasket. Apparently they didn't see a problem with it running mid 14:1 AF ratios under boost

It's a good chance to break in the blower actually... i clocked up about 300km before the chip went in and it was ready for boost. CAPA recommend 150km break in before boosting...

So really, you NEED to drive it around before you tune it... as cant hit the dyno with a fresh blower and blast it for a full-throttle tune...

But you can with a turbo :)

So really it shouldn't be a problem with the bigger injectors and so on, with the stock ECU running for a few hundred km's. Cause i know the MAF wont be suited to injectors i have.
I might just have higher fuel consumption figures?

Thanks Dave

If you are not running matched MAF and injectors I would probably just tow it there. What injectors and MAF are you planning on running?
