why u say the turbo will b better than a supercharger?
something like the sprintex at 12psi is what i was looking at. i dont want huge power i just want more power and tourze thru the whole rev range.

yeh im definetly leaning that way i always liked the idea of turbos
i only liked the supercharger for the ease of install and engineering wise

kelv_05ef_wagon wrote: i only liked the supercharger for the ease of install and engineering wise so did i... but for me i had to overdrive the supercharger to the point of it becoming unreliable just to squeeze 216rwkw out of it... admitantly the engine is stock.. but i now have a turbo fitted... and i havnt had it dyno'd or tuned but i dont need to rev it to near 6000rpm to get the the power i feel at 4000rpm... |

withought taking it to the track,
i would say yes.... the amount of mid range torque feels huge compared to the supercharger.. and torque is what gets the weight moving!! but you have also got to look at what type of charger you want to compare.. imo, now that ive had both... the centrifugal charger has a very progressive acceleration and power.. still a satisfying amount power.. the turbo, once it starts spooling its all happening, power comes on hard and pulles hard to redline. ive never had a positive displacement charger, but the opinions ive heard are they have a strong power and torque from low rpm and an average top end in comparison to say a turbo.. |

ok turbo definetly sounds like the go
ive read a fair few pages of your build and still havent come across where you got your turbo from and what size? i like the rpm your getting boost at and as i plan to go with snorts liquid plenium would i be better off going for a bigger size? to acheive boost the whole way to redline?

i got my turbo kit complete from a member on here..
its a garrett to4e on a 6 boost manifold specs are... 66mm compressor wheel, and a P-trim ex wheel 65mm .70 ar compressor housing 4" inlet_2 1/2 outlet and .96 ar turbine housing with 4" vband outlet.. as for size? i think depending on the power you want and where you want to make it.. afaik what snort supply in there kits are pretty much spot on as in turbo size for there stage of kit... someone with more turbo knowledge might be able to help you more with the size for your application.. |

Keep in mind the XR6T has a 61mm turbo .. So anything from 60 to 70mm will do fine..
The exhaust housing has more to do with spool ... 1.06 in T3 turbine housing OR .84 A.R in T04 turbine housing... In most cases you need an external wastegate for T04 turbo... At this power level an external gate is best anyway...

Yea I got a stock BA I6 with a Raptor running around 15lbs boost with the stock tune and I'm around 270rwkw or just north of it.
We found that the stock Raptor at 9-10 lbs was consistently (3 or so car lengths) faster than a stockish XR6T.Funny thing was it didn't feel faster than the T,when ya drove the T it felt faster. Probably the way the power hit. We all know that you could take a T to seriously mental power levels here though. I love my Raptor as I do long miles and it's fun to just cover the country miles at a good speed. It shuts down very expensive Eurotrash as well . A centrifugal Supercharger is like a good push into the seat on power whereas a serious T can just pin ya there. Depends what you want.

My old car ebxr8 auto, 3.9 l.s.d, hurricane headers, magnaflow 2.5" cats into a single 2.5" exhaust, around 9psi with the Raptor V supercharger.
xr8 would normally run out of puff after 4k rpm and launch off the line really well after fitting the Raptor it transformed the car from a small power band to having instant pull at any throttle opening, boost came on @ 3k rpm and ramped up to 9 @ 5500rpm. Even tho it made boost @ 3k rpm its still increased power down low as its always feeding the engine. With that setup i beat a wrx,baxr8 and a hsv vz gts. The turbo on this car (fairmont v8) has a healthier engine with explorer manifold and 1.7 rr on 6psi owns the raptor from midrange on, off the line there isnt that extra air being feed and basically stalling it up gets wheel spin and it gets out of control easier. Im around a full second quicker now than the xr8. ive owned a 66 stang, 2010 wrx sti, r33 gtst 220rwkw ba xr8 and a 160 rwkw el xr8. Its hard for me to pick which id do again but if i did the raptor id run its max boost and bolt ons for the added power, if i had to turbo again id leave engine stock and run as much boost as 42lb injectors could make. |
