I have just got a ZK fairlane to use as my tow car and everyday driver, so far its going to get a 9" with 3.0 lsd, a rebuilt kitted C4 with loosened stock stall, clean running 100% stock alloy head 250 currently carbed.

Will be using an impco 225 in blowthrough with water to air cooler.

I just want something for everyday driving and towing cars, probably 5-10psi on stock engine.

Choices are KKR430, KKR480, GT 35/40 second hand from XR6T, new GT35/40, or 30 or 35 etc etc

I want to have minimal lag, but not so small it boosts on the highway at 100, any advice from people with turbo 250's?

GT 35/40 would be ideal imo, new would be better but if you go with a second hand unit get it checked out with a specialist who does rebuilds.

the 35-40 definatly, would steer clear of water to air coolers but, air to air works beta and would be cheaper.

water to air is more efficient, but more complicated, most high HP cars either run massive air to air or an air to water, air to water can be built smaller, people use air to air because its the easiest not the best, air to water cools even when the car isn't moving.

Plan is to build a nice little air to water and fit where battery used to be, with heat exchangers in front of each front wheel, using little brushless water pump, car has a/c and with XD style LTD front bar and grill there is minimal space for air to air, also don't really want to cut holes in car for plumbing.

Get in touch with Jake at Jake's Performance in the ACT.

He's a straight talker who delivers what he promises.

Oh yeah, he knows his stuff with the sort of real-world application that you're talking about.

Jake had a bloke call in yesterday who sounds suspiciously like LTD351T...

You're right about Jake being busy. But isn't that just normal operating procedure for him?

yeah I went to ask jake a few things.

I decided upon the KKR430.

Going to use the 425 I already have instead of a 225, should work without a problem, just harder to make adapter.

Jake said they work well for low down power on a near stock 250, and it was cheap, he said the 480 would also work but wouldn't spool as early, i wanted something that would work from 1500rpm to 4000rpm and only 5-10psi.

Aaaaah... A man after my own heart.

When I get spare time, the plan is to fit a KKK K14 to the Courier. The turbo's been sitting in the shed for near-on 12 months.

My aim is the same as yours: Low boost but coming in straight off idle and nosing over well before 5,000.

Its still a time thing as you need to open throttle to build exhaust pressure..Even then it requires load...
Always remember turbo's are LOAD responsive NOT rpm responsive...
Nitro you are lucky.. You can use Mazda Turbo maniflds I guess?? From 625 turbo...
