Im just curious as to which intercooler core people on here are using and what power they are acheiving for a certain boost level?
My EB made 202 on 10psi with a tired motor, XR6 Turbo and a cut down hybrid core that fit behind a stock bar. My AU made 308rwkw on 14psi with a small garrett tube and fin core. damaged GT3540, cam and forgies. After the turbo was rebuilt it made 340rwkw on the same boost level. Ive now got a standard ford intercooler making 185 on 12 psi. Ive heard of there being up to 7psi pressure drop on these cores at 15psi. 15psi on the hot side and 8psi on the cold at the same time. Is everyone here using ebay intercoolers? If not what are you using? Cheers, Dan |

I think most ppl are using 600mm X 300mm X 76mm, and yes ebay intercoolers!

I have a 600x300x100mm cooler purchased in the group buy organised on here. Haven't fitted it yet though. Its on the list of things to do.

myne is a 720x300x67 kls bar and plate of ebay.
they claimed it to have just .5 psi pressure drop at 15psi.

Did you have any troubles fitting the 720mm between your headlights?? I heard this was the main restriction with the 600mm coolers.

His cooler fitting between the lights shouldn't be as much of a problem, because i don't think its an XR. Its our quad light setup that restricts us a little, Kilma.
By the way Dansedgli, i'm only using a cheapie Monza one, i picked up a while ago, but i'll be able to tell you in a few weeks, if i'm getting any pressure loss. I also heard, that a good cooler should only lose around .5PSI at around 10-15PSI, and a s**t cheap one, should lose a max of around 2 PSI at the same pressure. Don't know if this true at all or not. |

why put the cooler between the lights, just put it under the lights on EF/EL's.
EA-ED its best to go between headlights because the front bars arnt as suited to FMIC's

effalcon is right, u can pritty much go as wide as u want with the el/ef because u dont need to put them between the head lights.

i think you will find that the law of thermodynamics says that for an intercooler to remove the 50-80+ degrees of temp from the air, it must have atleast a 2-3psi pressure drop across the core...
i beleive the claims you see on ebay of .5psi are absolute crap, more likely 3psi

If the intercooler is cooling air ??? Then obviously air pressure will drop as air becomes more dense...
I'm using a Hybrid and close to 600 rwhp with 600 x 300 core...If I did it gain I'd look into a narrower one with 100 .. thickness so it sits higher... OR take 30mm off the top so it can be mounted higher...??? What heats the air is small compressors.. Being these are big motors and DON'T realy run with small turbo's ... Most turbo's from Gt35/40 upwards won't have too many issues with inlet heat especially under 10 Lb... NOT saying i/c is not required. Just that a BIG one isn't.. Sometimes these things get alittle out of hand...

mine is ebay 600x300x100 core
with my gt35/40 on 15lb i get a fairly big temp difference across my core, havent actually measued it but grabbing both sides of my cooler piping and you certainly see how effective the cooler is.. my inlet temps dont go over 40deg, usually 32deg if i get plenty of airflow the pressure drop due to cooling was exactly what i was referring to... its different than just putting a cooler on a flow bench and seeing .5psi drop at whatever cfm

Thanks guys.
Is your current one 75mm thick Graham? Thanks ebs_4l, yours was the one I was interested in the most as your making similar power at similar boost levels as my AU was. Ill order a ebay special when I get home to ebay access. |

Cheers, Dan The standard xr6 cooler is a garret core but it is only rated for the standard xr6 they did bring some slightly longer cores in for upgrades but I havent seen them used yet but if you know someone you can get hold of them at a good price and you can use the original tanks just need to extend the pipes slightly. cheers Mic |
