Just some pics of a low mount turbo manifold for the E series that I made up.
Just seeking the opinions on people who have built high mount turbo manifolds or purchased them. What is the appeal of a high mount turbo. Locating the turbo low like the XR6T has many advantages when it comes to heat, exhaust and inlet plumbing and wastegate location. Is the appeal that the turbo is the bling factor that must be seen or just that no one has ever really engineered a low mount manifold before. Seeking opinions

i think high mount has less clearance issues.
with the turbo so low you run into issues of where the i/c piping can run, where you can run the filter. how close it goes to the kframe. probably a little harder to design things to fit. my turbo's low mounted and i'm happy with it being so, but also the manifold looks so messy when you can see it like that.

Ive only bought high mounts because that is all that was available for the Pre BA 6.

Nice work, looks like the nizpro BA manifold... look out for melted stuff, the nizpro ones seem to melt everything around them if not covered

engine bay looks so mean with a nice big turbo at the top though!

I'm getting a high mount one, but now thinking about it more i would have preferred a low mount such as the BA.
One of the reasons, and i know people will disagree with me on this, is that i want to run the plumbing the same that is used on the BA. That way I can leave the airbox where it is, leave the battery where it is, and use a similar style intercooler. And this way I could have the turbo intercooled logo on the intake.... Wnak factor i know, but i like it - and its MY car!!! |

lovin your mainfolds, how long did it take you to make them,
by the way high mounts look better, i think thats why more people choose to do so

by the way high mounts look better, i think thats why more people choose to do so Its all made out of 3mm thick steel and those collectors (the manifold is split pulse) are moulded out of one piece of 3mm stainless steel each side. I estimate about 30 to 40 hours work from start to finish. It seems that for a high mount the bling factor is strong. Nizpros manifold is a bit close to the overflow tank and I have done my manifold to specifically have more clearance in this area and more clearance for positioning of the wastegate. Heat shouldn't pose a problem for the master cylinder as much as the high mounts do. For the E series if you reposition the power steering lines there is enough room for a low mount. The next one I do will be for a BA which has even more room than the E series. Keep those opinions coming.

Just two things that come to mind,
Is there going to be a clearance issues with the engine mount And it might be more difficult to run oil/water lines to the turbo |

Its very relatively easy to do and not very expensive. I bend the existing steel part of the pressure hose and add about 6cm bundy tube with compression fittings. For the return line you just buy a longer return line and bend the fitting a little on the power steering a little. Re clearing the engine mount. Th lowest part of the turbine clears the highest part of the EF series engine mount by about 15mm. This is all it needs. The EA/ED mounts have heaps of clearance. It just when I do the BA I think I will need to change the cast aluminium mount to a EF/EL cast iron style to get the clearance but nevertheless very easy and cheap to do provided they are a direct interchange. Water and oil lines are no problem.
