Ah yes my bad, should've payed more attention :oops:

The more I look at the it, the more appealing it seems, maybe if the boot was sealed a bit more, so only induction piping in, exhaust out, and maybe a vent or something cut into bootlid (ala MR2 for ideas) that'd be sweet. 8-)

I had a look at the movies, it seems to be a good idea, but why don't we see many more of these around?

I think it would work very effectively, maybe for not huge a*** horsepower but for extra mid to top end i think it would be very beneficial. I once had a turbo of a codia (very small unit) and i held it against the back of my exhaust pipe and i was pulling 3 psi very easily at slight revs, and you could imagine the exhaust leakage it had with me just holding it there!

another thought would be the slight intercooling effect of the length the intake charge has to travel before gerring to the engine.....

But the XR6T has an intercooler in that 3.2m of length. Thats why i asked about one on this car... Maybe he could have water injection to cool it. I take your point though, and as for everyone else asking why he did it, at the end of the day if he's happy and it's different then all the luck to him.

I'd be a bit worried about having that blazing hot turbo right next to my fuel tank! :shock: :shock:

Also no muffler!

And I'm sure it would be great when all your luggage catches on fire! and the exhaust going up into the boot and being sucked back into the turbo and into the passenger compartment.

if you read thru the sight it states that because the exhaust gas has cooled heaps by the time it gets to the turbo it is running 500 deg F cooler then the conventional mounting under the bonnet, plus as it states its for low boost applications 5-12psi max so the turbo wouldnt get that hot, and if you are running this set up are you really going to be carring s**t in the boot right next to it? i think it would be even better under the boot at the back, as falcons have a large enough area along the side at the back to run a turbo under there and it would be air cooled aswell, then just run the air filter up into the boot.

im sure if you were to spend the time and do this well you could even bring the inlet pipe up thru the bottom of the factory airbox and no one would be able to tell from looking under the bonnet that it is turbo'd.

Does that mean that you could keep your extractors? Cause lots of people find that the turbo manifold is the hardest to get right...i think.

Thats just my guess, i know next to f**k all about turbo setups, or anything really.

I guess in this application you'd use .45 AR exhuast and .75 compressor due to lower exhuast speed??....The bigger compressor wouldn't heat the air as much...Negating the need for intercooler...
They fit them in front of the rear axle on the Cheby gen lll Vehicles...
Yes you can keep extractors etc...

It has as many cons with the pros it has, many of the pros would be the cons, lower exhaust temp means less exhaust gas pressure, meaning lower boost, lag would be huge because of distance of both exhaust and return to intake.

XR6T intake has a intercooler fitted and it has to comply with noise regulations, this combines engine, intake, exhaust and road noises, so we can not compare the intake length with something factory vs aftermarket. (aftermarket XR6T intake could probably reduce the intake length by 1 metre at least)

As much as I like the creativity of it I don't think we will see a huge following, you have to remember that the electric blower is also marketed the same way in USA, and we all know it is an awesome product. :shock:

I am saying all this and thinking it would be fun for a play car.

i agree, it is not something you are gunna throw together to run mid 9's in, lol. take the fairlane in the first post, is anyone gunna say that it is definetly not more fun now then before he did that.....

its just something different, thats all........

It would be much more fun than a stocker, I like the idea of hiding it and not letting on the turbo is fitted.
