Definatley a interestin setup.

If he bottomed out and crushed a cat, would pieces of it possibly get sent back through the turbo..?

That is a good point, a very good one considering I have seen one do that without visible impact damage.

Hmmm .... You know it could be a great set up on say a ute or 1-tonner syle thing ... air intake from above the roof just like a big-rig! ... exhaust stack up the side! ....

The Deni ute muster is coming guys!

Cheers,

its a 400+ cubic inch motor, it would have enough torque to not have to worry about the lil bit of lag

Read something briefly on Autospeed about this sort of setup. Apparently it's becoming popular in the states?
5150 - would work alot better on a ute. Could use less length, easier to get air too. BA V8's have very cramped engine bays don't they... :D

Even though the BAXR6T intake ducting is 3.2 metres long the length of the exhaust to the turbo wouldnt be 3.2 metres long as apossed to that fairlane which would have about 6 foot of exhuast then another 6 foot of intake back to the manifold, ball bearing turbo or not its gonna take along time to fill 12 foot of pipe with compressed air/gasses.

yea, but it was also the yanks that brought us the joys of a household airconditioner installed in the tray of a ute!

That is a sik setup....

Surely there would be room to put the turbo somewhere closer right? Like just before where the cat would normally go

I think the biggest problem would be oil supply and more importantly draining. Perhaps a dedicated dry sump pump and tank in the boot?

Read a book on turbo installation! The oil drain is very important otherwise you flood the turbo bearings and blow the seals. Plus you have to wait for the oil to get all.....the......way to the turbo on startup!

Well said!

I've been having toughts on an oil cooler after my turbo and before the return to the sump. After reading what can happen, i'm totally off the idea! Oil return line should be fat, straight as possible and not dump lower than the oil level in your sump, as in really important you have the return up high enough on the sump!

Cheers

I think they use an electric pump on its own lube system??? Or a sump with elect pump as return line..Which is whats used on low mount turbo's up front....B/B don't need massive amounts of oil....
