Got some Edelbrock RPM's.. 3/8 studs.. no rockers..
since I'm running a mild cam I was thinking about getting 1.7 rockers.. I've heard people talking about them but can't seem to find any that work with 3/8 studs and aren't rail setups. can anyone shed some light on this? |

hi,i was going to convert my heads to 3/8 studs, but the forum think 5/16 will be ok.after market heads go bigger,so top end gear and also more $$,look on ebay in performance\tunning for parts, yella terra-crane-and others.some performance sites will also list them, check the v8 forum as this was recently disscussed. read the engine build by XH5LWEPN

There was one set on special for $2195 incl. (NZ)
Yeah I searched the Yella Terra site and outlets but the 1.7 doesn't come in a 3/8 stud.. local places here in NZ have them in a rail setup which I can't use due to guideplates.. I have found some in the US on ebay for about US$225 Ford racing M-6564-D351 lookllike the biz!.. surely I can get them from somewhere closer though? Aus or NZ? Stuff seems to take ages from the US, I waited 4 months to get my intake manifold and 5 weeks for a throttlebod sent via airmail! Summit take even longer and charged me US$40 handling fee for some traction bars I bought. |

Seeing as its a smaller package then perhaps ask Summit what it costs to send via UPS as opposed to their Priority mail. I just bought some more parts from them on Friday and when they told me it was going to be 2 - 4 weeks for Priority mail, they said it was US $10 more just to go via UPS and that takes 3 - 5 days instead. If you're in a hurry then you can throw another few dollars at UPS to get it here quicker. Actually UPS just called me on the mobile to say they are delivering it now and thats literally as fast as they claimed.

wow there is a huge difference in price between sourcing some 1.7's from the states and getting some 1.6's..
1.6 comp cams NZ$220 1.6 pro-comp for NZ$325 1.6 'cobra performance' for NZ$170 1.7 Ford Racing from summit NZ$392 (+shipping etc) Also heard of scopion from the states and Yella Terra.. What brands do you trust and do you think going to a 1.7 is worth it? |

I'd run Comp or Crane personally.
Just be careful if you run stud mount rockers that you can still fit your rocker covers, and if you run taller covers (to clear the R/Rockers) that they'll hit the manifold.

so pro comp, cobra performance etc are all nasty chinese brands eh?
yeah.. rocker covers fitting is the least of my worries atm, I'm not sure if my bonnet is even gonna fit over the manifold yet.. if the rocker covers don't fit I'll make a spacer for the upper maniold, out of plastic too for heat prevention.. (then it really won't fit under the bonnet) hmmm, I need some RR's asap.. but looks like if I want 1.7's then it's summit racing or nothing. |

I have Edlebrock RPM #60259 heads 2.02 intake valves ( no EGR cross over) - They came with 3/8" RR studs, (you will find that the part of the stud that screws into the head is 7/16" and what sticks out is 3/8") I changed the RR studs to 7/16".
I got a hold of Crane Gold Race Series 1.7 RR #36757 which are made for 7/16" studs. I installed Crane 2031 cam #444225. Together with 3.7 diff and morestall convertor. Get good springs - am using Comp Springs #978. Just get the geometry right. No valve float or bounce in this set up. Using Ford Racing EFI Valve Covers but the ones suited for trucks so oil filler tube is on LHS. You will need to grind out the casting posts in the cover for the 1.7RR. I also fitted the thicker felpro gasket ( 3/16" I think) for good measure. Richie.

yeah the heads came complete with comp dble valve springs,
interestingly enough.. I've read an article on fordmuscle: http://www.fordmuscle.com/archives/2001/10/rockerarms/ Results from putting 1.7 RR on a stock 5.0i "Take a look at the time slips and see for yourself. We were shocked! We ran a 14.261 seconds before the rockers and 14.357 seconds after… In other words the effects of the rockers were NADA! ZIP! ZILCH! In actuality we lost a little bit." well...... don't know if I'll bother after all! |

it's weird.. cos lots of people including cylinder head specialists have told me that you can't use 1.7 RR's on 302 windsors, others say you can but not with 3/8 studs.
But you must be able to because summit sell 1.7's for 3/8's 302 windsors! |

The heads need to be machined to accept stud mount.. Most std heads are pedestal mount..
Yella Terra have stealth roller rockers where they are held in pairs with shaft style using pedestal style both inlet / exhaust hold shaft in position. Making it more stable. Negating the use of guide plates... BTW I wouldn't touch Pro rockers at any cost... Unless you want shrapnell going through your engine...
