Do a search on posts in this section, most of these engine questions have been asked recently.
$5000 will limit you with how far you want to go with engine performance, probably the cheapest worthwhile performance mod would be to find some ex AU Falcon GT40p heads (cast iron), Explorer intake etc, aftermarket camshaft (to many choices), decent headers and sports exhaust system. Probably end up costing you most of that $5000 unless you can do these things yourself. With suspension what do you want? Do you want rock hard, handles like a go-cart (not good on rough corners etc) Ultra low (everything underneath ends up damaged) Something better all round, little bit lower than standard XR height? ( You will still probably end up with some sort of damage) As with any car you can spend under a $1000 to the sky's the limit with suspension, basically you get what you pay for but there is some good value products out there depending on what you want.

Bang for buck, you would be best off saving up a little bit more and getting a blower.
Easy power.

Easy power. Says the man with the blower. |

I reckon go the diff gears, give it some more low down punch. Get a set of headers and exhaust. Have you existing springs compressed a little, keep the standard setup.
Get a decent intake and bobs your uncle. plenty power for peter

i agree on better diff gears.. full exhaust, and a little CAI.. under-drive pulleys, maf and tb upgrades..cheap basics for extra power.

You wanna get some decent performance with out big $$$.
Get diff gears and headers/exhaust. Underdrive pulleys are a waste of cash

XR8's have 3.45 diff gears anyway.
Decent extractors & cats & mufflers. Piss the last muffler and tiny tail pipe off by replacing them with a 2 1/2" pipe. Intake manifold, TB, MAF, heads and finally cam. (& bigger intake snorkle of course). Would'nt worry about suspension, they handle pretty good anyway.

I thought 3.45 was XR6 until ELII XR8 came out?

There is a guy on ebay that sells the GT airflow sensor. Don't know if it is any improvement.

I can get you a Weiand roots style blower for approx $3500, but it will need a little bit of work to make injectors work

Maybe you could option the 3.45, but i'm sure the 3.23 was standard..

I am pretty sure that the 3.23 was for the manual and 3.45 the auto.
I know that if you optioned the tow pack you got the 3.45 as well, but I never had that option. If you have the 3.23 with an auto (and that rediculously tall 1st gear) I would definately change the diff ratio's to give it more punch off the mark.. There should be a sticker on the top side of the righthand tube telling you what the ratio is.
