Hi guys i currently own a 1997 el2 xr8 manual and i am looking for somewhere preferably on the north side of Brisbane to build a 347 stoker for it. the 302 currently has afr 165cc heads, edelbrock rpm performer manifold, crow cam, crow anti pump up lifters, yella terra roller rockers etc. Any sugestions on performance shops and also decent stroker combos would be much appreciated.
Cheers

$10000 to $12000 roughly. Im mainly just going to use it on the weekends, cruises etc but would like decent amount of power for some track and strip work. I was considering looking into a 363 dart stroker, not sure though who on the north side of brisbane is good with fords

U need a bigger budget to cover all upgrades as u will need to upgrade fuel system, exhaust etc and 10-12k not going to cut it.

For that much u can supercharge your current engine.........

It doesnt have to be the north side but i would prefer it. And the fuel system already has an upgraded fuel pump, injector rails and regulator and fuel lines. Plus it has diffilippo headers, high flow cats and a twin two and a half system right through. The only stock parts are the bottom end. It also has a yella terra flywheel and cushion button clutch fitted 2000kays ago. What sought of money should i be looking at now? I see you can buy a Dart 363 stroker short block from the states for $6000

You won't build an engine that cheap here. More like $10-15k for a good 347.

Alot of $$ on std block..
The rotating assembly is stronger than block..
Meaning a turbo / blown engine with std rotating assembly
the block cracks with either too much power, RPM or bad tune..
A blower can be swapped to other engines too...

The short block from dart seems to be a good idea especialy with how strong the aussie dollar is but im not to sure how much from the standard 302 block will bolt onto the dart block. Any ideas? Main reason i dont want to supercharge is the problems it could cause with the police etc

Everything form your 302 will bolt to the dart 363 short block, altho your heads are a bit small for that amount of cubes.

Cheers Matt.

Can you do any of the work yourself, i.e. - remove and refit the engine? That'll save you a bit. How much of a rush are you in to get it done? You can get a "builders kit" from fordstrokers.com in the US for around US$1800. This kit contains machined block, balanced rotating assembly and everything else you need to build the short block. I think air freight is around $800 and sea freight is about $400. The only thing is, he's backed up by about 10 weeks. I wish I went that route, because my machining and balancing bill came up to over $2k.

Because you have pretty much everything done to suit the stroker, I reckon you'll be able to get it done locally for $12,000. You'll need a rotating assembly. Cast will be fine in a stock block, so an entry level Scat or Eagle kit will be ok. Machining and balancing, new flywheel, new balancer, bearings, gaskets and assorted bits and bobs. You'll probably need a new cam and possibly new pushrods as well. What size injectors do you currently have? They may need to be upgraded, as well. Then you'll need to spend money on a retune. I'm assuming you already have a tune in it with your current motor. Your exhaust will be fine, as will the fuel system. The only thing you may have a problem with afterwards is your gearbox , if you're running a T5.

Jim/woody from fordstrockers has a 6 month wait last time i heard........

Get a long engine from either Keith Craft or CNC Motorsports unless your happy to wait for Jim, which I would do..........

Also get them to run it in and tune it on the engine dyne before they send it off......

How long ago was that? If it's something that interests the OP, then he can call or email them and find out for certain. The kit I was referring to requires assembly when it arrives, therefore there's no need to wait for assembly over there.

Just trying to help with suggestions to keep within budget. They rate these shorts to around 500hp, I think it is. I'd suggest giving the 165s and RPM intake a go, considering you already have them and invest in a custom cam to make the most out of your combo.

At the end of the day, it all depends on what you want out of your combo.
