I'm wanting to buy a new car as the suspension in my AU is causing a lot of headaches. Browsing around, I can't really find any decent manual cars, so I was considering getting a standard manual in good condition and putting my current engine in it, which currently resides in an autonatic.
I have no idea if it can be done or how though. Do I need to change anything or will the computer on the new car detect the difference in engine and adjust to compensate?

I'm completely green on this subject. Any help or siggestions at all are appreciated.
It is likely, that by the time I understand what is necessary, the car I am looking at will be sold, so I tagged this as General because I'm looking for more general replies than model-specific answers.

Thanks.

I could be wrong, But you cant put older engines in newer cars because they dont meet the Emissions requirements.
you would have to use everything fuel and emissions wise off the newer car and get proof that the engine is meeting requirements which from what i under stand is a really expensive experience

Yeah, emissions may be an issue. I forgot about that.
If its any consideration, I manage to use 9.6L/100km, but I doubt that's gonna affect the emmissions enough to be legal.

what's the headaches?

Essentially, being the IRS model, there is a shortage of commonly failing parts, namely the upper rear shock mounts.

These parts are unobtainable new, remanufactured or even from a scrap yard. Ford never made any spares, and it is illegal to make or refabricate your own due to a few laws.
In other words: they're rare as all hell and I cannot find any.

I've had my current set repaired as best as possible by increasing the size of the bushings, however, the rubber is perishing and has completely failed on the right hand side. As such, the car is no longer legally road-worthy and due for registration in three months.

I've already searched every wrecking yard from here to Sydney and beyond. Nowhere has any parts. As have hundreds of other people, many of them even on this forum.

So, its a headache.

the b series and fg have just as much if not more irs issues then the au, at least in au the irs can last up to 250-300'000km, b series and fg are lucky to get half that before diff bushes are stuffed..
and the upper shock mounts for au are now available aftermarket, wholesale suspension are making replacements and also i heard shockworks have made a re designed unit aswell..
all au irs bushes are available aftermarket..
rear shock mounts below..
http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/FORD-FALCON- ... SwcUBYUbq5

http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/FORD-FALCON- ... SwMNxXWJtn

irs bush kit.
http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Suits-Ford-F ... SwBahVF3W5

tbh, you will have far bigger headaches trying to get a au v8 to work in a fg, first thing comes to mind, sump will need modifying as au are front sump and fg are rear sump due to different k frame design..

if you going to the extreme to consider doing this swap due suspension issues in the au and just dont want irs anymore, then may i suggest converting the au to live axle? or looking around for a au that is live axle and put your running gear in that..
possably still less work and less costs involved than putting the windsor in the fg

Oh that sounds great. I had no idea they were available aftermarket now.

I'll definitely take a look at the provided links once I'm off work. Cheers!

why bother with au 5.0 into an fg 6...

the fg 6 will most likely have more power and be a faster car! ( that is if your 5.0 is stock )

hell i have seen some rather nice looking bf turbs going for under 10k here in perth!

I prefer how a car sounds, to how fast it goes. The FGs don't sound as good, I recon.
{DESCRIPTION}

But it looks like I won't need to now if these suspension parts are obtainable.

E: I checked out the links.
The second e-bay link sells illegal parts (refabricated). Not that I care.
The issue here is I've contacted this seller before and he wants an exchange only. My old ones, are part of the price.

I cannot do this as I rely on my car 5/7 days and can't pull it all apart and wait weeks for shipping.

The first ebay link I have never seen.
I do not like how it is worded, it seems suspicious to me. There is only a single set left, it seems.
I'll look into it further before making a decision.

I do not require a bush kit, I installed a brand new kit just 14 months ago.

I think maybe you should just buy an EL XR8 and stick your engine in that?

Its a possibility.

For now I'm gonna trust the Ebay link as a local mechanic says they can be trusted.

Now its just a matter of waiting for enough cash to do it...

Good idea. Can you show me what the parts look like and what they're made of? I may be able to make them and make them much better than stock.

I'll try to remember to snap some pics once I get them. No problem.
