Don't forget that the 221 has the old 5 bolt bellhousing pattern, not the 6 bolt pattern used from 289's and later.
With only a 3.500" bore, it would be struggling to make any decent torque anyway. If you want to have more power and torque, you would be better off getting a 302 block and starting from there, and go for a 3 speed C4 to liven it up a bit. It will be externally the same, and a 302 can be made into a 347 for not a lot of $$$. Good power at low revs, nice cruiser, with good fuel economy. Nice car, good luck with whatever you do.

AFR heads won't realy work.. Better ratio auto as in 4/5 BTR speed & 3;9 / 4;1 gears would realy wake it up.. Yea 5 bolt block but not hard to work around..

Yes sorry, that's right, the bore is too small for the AFR chamber/valves(or any 4" bore head for that matter)I had 289 on the brain
btw there was also a 255windsor in the early 80's...basically it was a small 3.68" bore 5.0 block with a 302 crank. I saw a couple of guys caught out thinking they had bought a 302 in the early 90's....a s**t engine. |
