installed 260kw boss into xa coupe, running but appears to be in limp mode. max revs initially 1400 but play with resistanec and gets to 2500.
has new 5 speed manual behind it but pcm and harness out of auto ute
have plugged in a scanner but showing no fault codes.
any ideas on how to get it out of limp mode?
would like to add photos but they won't attach

Its in limp home mode because there are no input data from the auto. As there is no auto, there is no data and the pcm believes that there must be something wrong with the 'auto. When this happens, your pcm will try and protect this 'auto' by knocking a LOT of timing out and losing PLENTY of grunt.

To fix this, the cheapest and most cost effective route would be to buy a flash tuner ie CAPA/SCT Ford flash unit. There are plenty of good deals at the moment too.

EDIT: Also, you can change gearbox strategies with the flasher. Just change your ECU to suit a manual.

Click "Add an Attachment" when posting
"Add an Attachment" selection will be shown underneath
Click "choose", you will then get a "Open" box pop up
Select from pictures by either navigating via the left side bar or arrow at the top.
Once you have found the picture you would like to upload/attach, either quickly double click on it or click once then click the "Open" button.(Please note this is for a Windows based operating system, it is slightly different for Linux or Macintosh operating systems)

Depending on which internet browser you use you may or may not see a file name in the file name box, don't worry, now click on the "Add Attachment", it might take a little while but you should now see a "Posted Attachments" button showing, which means you have succeeded in posting an attachment.
Finish your post and submit.

If you do not submit the post the attachment will still be saved under your user name, view your profile not by clicking " My Profile" but via clicking on your user name shown in "Who's Online" at the bottom of the forum index, then click on "User Attachment Control Panel" link just under "Upload Quota", you will see a list of attachments you have posted, you can then view them in there.

i notice you are an adelaide boy! kpm is currently selling flash tuners for $495 with 3 tunes (generic). they can flash in the manual software and also get rid of that nasty limiter for you. generally pick up 10 or so more kw at the treads on the boss too. custom tune may net you a bit more. should be somewhere around the 200rwkw mark give or take, depending on the dyno. xa will be a lot lighter than a ba so it should go like stink as well.

if you still have trouble with pics send them to me and i'll put them up. otherwise get yourself a photobucket account or similar.

you may need to resize them too.

thats fooking nice!

anyway you could get hold of an ECU from a manual xr8 at all, it would be the easier way i would expect.

a member up here had the same problem in his BA, was a 6, but after he had the manual installed he had he same problem, they tryed flashing a manual tune on it at ford, but this didnt work. a manual ecu did tho, and his as happy as larry now...
this was at ford tho so... flash tuner may help :P

also, just out of interest... are you running an uneditied ecu? how's it go without all the BCM and stuff..bypass or something?

every body should know that this piece of work belongs to my bother in law and was a rust bucket 302 six months ago. now not a drop of rust and all engineered by himself. 26okw, 5 spd, 9inch disc, and called new yella.
old yella was a genuine xa gt coupe which helped to pay for this project.
he is looking at this being his prototype.

if you want something done properly don't get ford to do it, esp when it comes to ecu's. sorry for lumping them all in the same boat but its been established on most forums that the amount of competent ford technicians around is very minimal.

I'd be getting the flash tune myself. workmate of mine just had it done by kpm and it worked fine. it also helps improve the limiter. in factory form it just cuts the fuel/spark at certain rpm so when you're full noise and hit it you nearly headbutt the windscreen. the edit allows it to 'bounce' off the limiter so revs are maintained as you grab another gear!
