Ok firstly all modulars are 90 degree engines and for the 4 millionth time the E-series bay is actually a smidge wider than a B-series!
The 4.6 has a short deck height of 8.937" and the 5.4 or 6.8 is 10.079" A modular is also very short due to it's small bore spacing and accessory placement. A 4.6(even an iron block one) or coyote is certainly the lightest way to go and is the way I would go but, if you do the work to set back a 5.4 in the bay it'll be pretty good. Here's a pic of my 390 bigblock which has a 10.17" deck height sitting on an EB K-member with plenty of room to spare so, a modular will fit. Attachment:

No wuckers Mick,
Sounds good, If it were mine I'd say... no body kit, stock interior, 17" wheels max because I think 20's make the car look like a roller skate plus you get greater performance from 17's....something you'll certainly need . Cardinal red sure is a nice colour, good score there. The coyote has the same deck as a 4.6 so, nice and small compared to a 5.4 and probably most important, shorter in height, so no f**k in with the bonnet. Cheers. |

What do you intend to do about the sump if using a coyote? Regardless of if you use a US coyote or Australian 'Miami' (same block) both use a rear sump set up as in the FG's and mustangs.
You could possibly use an earlier modular oil pick up from a falcon (BF etc) then get a custom sump made to fit. You will need a custom sump though as can't fit a BA/BF sump with the coyote being a bit longer due to the VCT. I have been looking into this and am curious to see whether the earlier oil pick up both fits and sits in the right position. If it does would not be difficult at all to modify the sump to suit (and using a custom sump should make it easier to fit without difficult to engineer modifications. How much are you looking at spending? I don't think you will get a coyote and 6 speed in there for much change out of $15000. I believe they are around US$6500 for a crate engine, then extra for PCM/loom and obviously freight and any relevant import duties. 4.6 into a falcon has been done before and could work out a bit cheaper (as falcon modular oil pick up and sumps can be used) plus could probably get one second hand. Alternatively they want $4800 for the one below plus another $2500 for trans which means you could probably get it done under $10k if you are doing the work yourself. {DESCRIPTION}

Those local prices are sure up there! I'd go direct to the U.S.
Here's some prices I got just before xmas.... Engine $5900 Controls pack $1250 Alternator kit $192 The sump is steel so you could easily do what I was going to do with my 6.8, just section the pan off below the pan rail and weld it on backwards then make you're own pickup out of the original. Just got a 5.0 Mustang mag with some blown coyote vs GT500 tests. The coyote made 710hp with 15psi. They were going to go 18psi but it blew up it's oil pump because they had to change the harmonic balancer to overdirve the blower which created pump killing harmonics. They were rear wheel figures btw. |

As Pete said I would source the engine from the US, then get the box locally.
White interior will require cleaning a lot...my friend had a white interior for a bit in one of his cars and was shocked at how it would show when it was the tiniest bit dirty. It was a daily driver though. Have you considered keeping the EL GT wheels the standard colour and doing the interior to match?

Here's a quote I got off summit just now....
The cost of the parts before freight is $8342.80 U.S. of which you'll also cop 20 odd % duty and 10%gst plus they usually hit you with all sorts of other costs when it get's here. I think the exhange rate is about 1.05 at the mo. Isn't DHL a shocker!? I'd be looking at sea freight. Ship Method Delivery Estimate Total DB SCHENKER Door to Airport 2 3 3 - 7 Days * $2,992.63 Airport required Please select preferred airport: DHL Worldwide Priority Express 2 - 6 Days * $5,116.59 |
