well I just installed a 3/8" phenolic spacer today and guess what!... my intake is oiled up nicely aswell.

Spoke to my mechanic and apparently its a normal thing for it to happen as the vacuum made in the intake upon a sharp closure of the throttle from higher revs, can cause the engine to suck oil through the PCV into the intake. Catch can would normally fix it or a gausse filter on the PCV just to stop the oil. Also apparently this is a common problem with the BOSS engines.

Basically they are correct that you will get oil vapours sucked into the intake from the PCV... It is best minimised by running a seperator tank (like a sealed breather tank) in line in the PCV hose.

yeah, im actually getting one now as I think this explains a few of my recent issues. There is actually a lot of oil in my intake. We'll see how it goes.
How would you recommend cleaning the oil deposits out without removing the intake and flushing it? Carby cleaner as mentioned before? |

Well all carby cleaner will do is wash it down the intake and into the cylinders... Not really ideal IMO I'd either pull the intake or leave it alone, it isn't going to hurt anything.

yeah but it would just burn out the exhaust if you washed it down. Plus it would be in the inlet ports in the heads too those will definitely not be removed hehe. I suppose once you stem the flow it would flush through over time yeah?

If there is a blowby problem it may show up with some of the spark plugs being oily.I'd suggest cleaning out the intake and after a few hundred km's checking the spark plugs. I've encountered the same problem with mine and I have been using a catch can.I've also considered that the rings have'nt beded in properly but have never found the plugs to be oily.Hope this helps.

I could be wrong but i'm trying to sort this problem out as well.I'd hate to take the motor out and strip it down if it is'nt a ring problem.Try the catch can and see how you go.

Blowby is caused by rings not sealing properly...
Try retarding timing a little till it settles down, or check timing / tune ?? Raising the pcv away from manifold / rocker cover can help also.. I have fitted an alloy tube with two baffles welded inside.. Virtually an inline oil separator..
