your right on the crank
Look into the rods thou - my 302 was converted to 351 using the 351 crank but 302 rods for a shorter stroke |

You can just change crank and rods, or as above, use 351 crank, 302 rods and buy the pistons to suit. Clevo are known for bore stress due to the angle of the rod at BDC, with the longer rod it keeps it higher up the bore. What are you using the car for? |

So when you use the 302 rods is the stroke the same as a standard 351? 3.5 inch isn't it?

You can use 351 or 302 rods but the pistons to suit a 302 rod costs twice as much as one to suit a 351 rod.

Cool. When I bought my fairlane I got told that the motor was originally a 302 but had been stroked to 351. When I had to get a piston replaced the mechanics said that it had standard 302 rods in it so I just assumed that I had been told lies. Will measure the stroke one of these days. It seemed to go harder then the standard 351 that I also had.

The 302 rod combo came in the mid 90's, back then there was only one company selling the pistons as a standard item, otherwise you had to get custom made.
I only built one of these with 302 rods, we ran the small motorsport cam with mildly ported 2V closed chamber heads and Edelbrock Performer manifold. It went into a XY GT ute that my mate built and he sold it with 100 miles on the clock, i was spewing as we never got to find out how well it went. |

I'd be checking bores first mate.
Personally i wouldn't be pulling an old Clevo down and slapping pistons in without boring it. At least get the bores checked for wear and make sure they're not ovaled or have too much of a lip. |

Checked with my engine builder - As thought he has used hypertec pistons in mine with the 302 rods
Also - i have open chamber heads running roller rockers If the car is going to be used for burnouts mainly in a corolla is it worth converting to 351? Or would the 302 be more than ample? |
