was considering getting rid of my 302 fairlane and maybe picking up a 351 esp or similar. i expect the fuel consumption to be worse, just wondering if anyone who owns a 351 or both could say how different. atm i generally get 450-500 to a 68ltr tank of reg. unleaded.

esp's are hot

my XE 302 auto esp got 230/250 with semi-lead-foot driving.
i would hate to see what a 351 manual fuel consumption would be.

hey Mik your avartar mate

I got around 21Ltrs per 100 in town driving carefully or like a d***head and just over 20Ltrs per 100 hwy driving gently at 100kph, it was just the wrong gearing, cam, Holley (didn't matter what size or jetting), mechanical electronic dissy, setup and weight. XF Ghia wagon 351C, 2.77 and FMX.

I used to be able to get from Penrith to Albury on 1 tank in my 302. I dont think it will do it now. (I went through over half a tank the other night when I let a mate drive my car)

Same mate has a 351 Clevo. I think he said 28L per 100 is what he gets.

Ouch.

Glad I'm only running a 4L 6 banger, those are some scary (considering current fuel prices) economy figures. Can you really call it economy???

In stock form in reality there isn't a great deal of difference in fuel ecconomy between a stocker 302 & 351 & seeing as an ESP would be lighter then a Fairlane it could even be a touch better but what is the point of a stocker engine & when you start to mod with carby cars you can forget about fuel ecconomy as Kel mentioned the RTA tested my car & came up with an average of about 28.5 litres per 100kms but they really didn't get up it in the testing so I would expect it would actually be worse then that.
