i'm chasing a 302 block but r the early ones the same as the late models it's for my eb so if i need to ring around some wreckers i'd like to know wat will suit before i buy.
my 347 has only done 1000k's when it produced a problem on the dyno,my engine builder has taken the heads off and its not pretty, heads r all rusty, bores r badly scored with some deep marks in them, hoping pistons r still round and not scorched, hes blaming the tuner, tuners blaming him.

dont see what they would be different, as the 302 got older didnt they just change the cam, heads, and then the crank later on in the AU?

blocks vary in strength, and slightly in design. None of the design changes will affect you other than the lifter bosses, which when the introduction of the roller cams necessitated longer lifter bores. You can get roller lifters for early blocks from Ford Racing to overcome this.
I am using a 1969 block in my 347 with solid roller cam and in an E series car |

Bad bore is wrong engine assembly...
He's having a go at you.. I suggest the rings warn't checked for end gap clearance.... Then when they heated up expanded and ceased in bores.. Chances are youir ringlands will be stuffed also....He can't say its tune without some evidence....

As I understand Ford's stock 302 blocks, the older blocks such as used by Matt in his 347, had thicker wall castings and maybe possibly some higher nickel content ( this is not necessarily the situation with all the Mexican blocks except perhaps the older Mexican blocks ). Ford's recent 302 block castings do have the thinnest walls and seem to have a solid history both here and in the U.S. of splitting around the 500hp mark +/- 50hp. Mind you 500 neddies is a lot of grunt.
