Hey guys,

Just putting the crank in today with new bearings and one of the main cap bolts has thread on both sides while all the others are normal bolt heads.

I'm not sure which spot it goes on or what bolts to it. There's no bracket on the oil pump so I'm confused :?

AU 302

Please help

Also I couldn't find any assembled pics on Google, and my falcon/fairlane spec book has small unclear, black/white pics, which are barely visable. So even a link or picture of an assembled bottom end will definitely help.

The bolt has threads on both sides? Does it have a head to drive it with a socket? If not, sounds like it's a "stud" and not a bolt.

No bracket on the oil pump? I don't follow what your problem is here...

Cheers

Hey mate,

It does have a head to drive it. The main thread (into block) is the same size spec etc as all other main bolts, then its got a fixed head (same size) to drive it BUT with a small thread (bout 10 -15mm length) on the other side of the head.

I thought the oil pump might have a bracket that bolts to it for added stability but alas no such bracket exists

I can see the pic but am I missing something? :( , it looks like a smaller bolt head but not one with a double thread.

Is this an e series guide?

That bolt is for the oil pickup on the Rear-Sump OilPans - Im using one in my AU Powered BMW. All Engines have them, but theyre only required on the rear-sumps. that is, early mustangs, F100's I believe

Thanks Nigel, thought it was for a different pump or that maybe mustangs got an extra support bracket or something.

I guess at the end of the day it doesn't really matter where it goes haha

It might matter if you need clearance to the oil pan somewhere. So it might not work further back?

But it's not so important - no

Cheers
