im aware of the power limits of a roller 302 block (approx 500hp), but want to know if the earlier blocks were stronger. I think i read somewhere that they can hold a little more power than the later ones. I am interested on buying one and fitting the roller lifter brace to make it a roller block.
Any one know what im on about? |

The factory engineering rating of a 5.0 block is 350hp.
The factory engineering rating of a 302 block up to '78 is 500hp. Mexican blocks can handle a little more because of the thicker main webs. |

so if the factory hp for roller is 350 and we push to 500hp, does this mean the earlier block can too be pushed 35% past factory limit?

Yes.
Maybe. You either need a reduced base roller cam(for stock 5.0 roller lifters) or a std base circle roller cam and link bar roller lifters. 5.0 blocks are a whopping 25lbs lighter than a early block. |

late 5.0L blocks are also 1 piece rear main seal...better idea IMHO. Save your money and buy a Dart or FRPP or something. Peace of mind more than anything.

I have the Dart Iron Eagle block..
EVERYTHING swapped over.. Slight mods to fit dog bone's was about all was done except honing for clearances.. The Dart Sportsman is a cheaper block.. A Ford 351 block can take much more as their webbing is much thicker and can take four bolt mains if required..

can i get a 351 block to be a 5L??
How much is the sportsman block? Plus machining? What is dog bone?? Whats involved in fitting all my parts to a 351 block? Cheers! |

No the 351 crank is too big..
The 351 long block is the way to go for strength.. http://www.suburbanimports.com.au Then add performance sump 5.0 accessaries fit, aftermarket inlet or box the upper ?? Dog bones are factory H patern plates than fit between lifters to stop them from turning with a spider plate holding them in.. Dart or Boss Sportsman are around $3k just for block.. Notice some clearance between block and dog bone?

The inlet can be alittle high due to engine being higher so some make a box on the lower and fab up a throttle body .. Much like what Nispro did to the turbo XR6T.. 5L accesories fit, dont think i have room for bigger sump, have explorer inlet...? A 302C crank will fit if you machine the step off the front of the crank that clevelands have but why bother? and your rods and pistons won't fit and you want to up the stroke not reduce it.
You can also get World 9.2 and 9.5 deck blocks with 302w type 2.25" mains so you could actually put a 5.0 crank in it....but once again WHY!??!?!? |
