Im thinking about a 331 stroker kit for my AU3 XR8 but was wondering if there is any other mods that are needed to run the stroker?
My car is a daily driver but I just want a bit more grunt out if it. Its currently at 191rwkw and I would like to get it about 210-220rwkw. And I read something about it having to be balanced as well, can anyone shed more light on this for me please. Cheers

Depends what kit you go for, most stroker cranks are either 28oz imbalance or neutral (yours is 50oz imbalance). So you'll potentially need new balancer and flywheel.
I'd also think about a bit of headwork while the motors apart to make the most of the increased capacity, and either a new manifold (RPMII ) or porting the explorer. Bigger fuel pump won't go astray, 24# injectors should be fine depending how much it makes. I'd also whack a bigger cam in there, TFS1 would be nice with the 331. Depends how far you wanna go with it

I was looking at the 347 but i think its safer for me to go the 331ci as it is a daily driver and im not looking to go all out with it. Im just looking for some extra power with reliability.
Is porting the heads and a new manifold a must for this or will i get away with the stock ones? Would anyone know what $$ are involved in this type of set up?

Theres no real reason the 331 would be more reliable then the 347, all the oil burning problems with the 5.4 rod 347s are gone with the newer kits.
Just don't go for a chinese kit. The 347 would be a nicer daily, would need less revs. check out http://www.hardcore50.com good site that doesn't deal in s**t. If you do a search for 331 vs 347 some people alot smarter then I am explain why theres no real reason not to go 347. You could get away with stock heads and manifold, it'll be choked up top, but still be very very torquey down low.

I was really keen to do a 331 for my wagon but the costs are the same as a 347.

what about just starting off with bigger cams and ported/new intake manifold? will that get me started? because im having mixed thoughts about stroking the AU.

Why not just get full new head setup AFR or trickflow heads and intake and cam would be another great option.

That is another good option for sure. A set of AFR heads, ported explorer, Crane/Crow/TFS cam and all tuned to suit will well and truly see you to around 220rwkw with alot of torque on tap. Obviously wouldnt be as much of a torque monster as a 331/347 but should easily put a smile on your face.

When you say porting the expolorer is that porting the whole thing?
cos ive seen some aftermarket intake manifolds but it just seems to be for the lower half.

Cheers I dont know if the 331 is the same balance as the 347.Mine is 347 and is 28oz balanced. The standard 5.0L is 50 oz balanced.

I was just checking out the trickflow manifolds and it says it has a 75mm throttle body bore diameter.
Would my stock throttle body fit on this (I believe its 70mm) or will I have to get a 75mm one?
