Hi,
I have a 302 in my NL Fairlane.

Wanting to stroke it to 347, wondering does anyone know where I can find a reliable but not overly expensive.

I eventually want to super charge it couple years down the track so I dont know if that means a certain kit?

Im not very mechanical minded.

Thanks

i did a bit of looking around last year on this cause badly want a 347!

occasionally the rotating assemblies come up for sale on here or on ford forums australia. in fact i can think of a 331 assembly for sale not a month or two ago. for places to buy new, go and get hold of a street machine magazine and ring a bunch of their advertisers.

somehting to keep in mind if you want to stroke then blow it, the standard block will definitely be reaching its upper limits by then.

another thing, if you do either, a new set of heads will be a massive help, as leaving the stock heads on it will just strangle it.

all in all, i couldnt see it being a <$10k and then you have to think about gearbox (im assuming your auto, so i'm taking a punt that it would probly be fine with a shift kit, for a while at least)

and if you're not mechanically minded, then you would have to pay someone to build it for you = $$$$.

i'm not trying to be a miserable bastard, but just be aware of how much it will cost in the end. in the end, i decided to go down another path with my car, even though a stroker would be the dream engine.

a few other people who would be good to speak to on here are the perth fellas; scaffy. x3ros come to mind as having strokers and then there is xh5lweapon, bottledup and a few others who really know there s**t.

hope that all helps you

stroking and supercharging a standard block = bang.= more money.
just stoke it (eagle or scat)and chuck some AFR 165 or 185 on it.

Yes, stock block is an item that should always be foremost in your mind if stroking and then supercharging it.
However you can keep the boost low and have a very hipo engine.
But if you push the boost too far the stock block will quite likely give way.
Around the 300rwkw mark is where you should start being concerned with a stock block.

I was thinking the Street/Race kit. Thoughts?

Anyone actually stroked 302 to 347, what were the results, power wise/or what do you think i should expect from stroking her?

Thanks guys, been a great help so far.

You can buy kits here

{DESCRIPTION}

or any engine builders around the country can source a kit for you.

Unfortunately the windsors in late model cars are quite week, they have great tendancy to start cracking around the 400 flywheel horsepower mark. I have seen some great shots of this from various US websites, there was even one that let go at 7000rpm and geez you couldn't tell it was a windsor at all.

You have couple options here, the older mexican blocks are a LOT stronger, they come from the 70's era. Not sure how you'd go with rego authorities of putting a 70 model motor into a 90's model car though. Some people seem to think as long as all pollution is connected up inline with what the car came out with then you will be fine. Best bet is ring your local rego authorities and ask them if this is the case.

I personally went a different route and bought an aftermarket DART Sportsman block, albeit not cheap but will handle anything i put at it within reason.
I'm building a 363 supercharged stroker from itto give you an idea.

When buying kits buy the best you can possibly afford if considering supercharging it down the line as last thing you want is one of these kits flexing and self exploding under boost (believe me it happens!!!)

Stay away from procomp - there are NUMEROUS threads around here along with various other sites that have had nothin but problems with them

The old saying, do it once do it right prevails here, the money you think you save by scimping on couple parts will come back and cost you 3 fold over when it fails

Get a 351 and stroke it to 393ci for less than a 347.
and a much more durable engine in the first place...

Yes the 351W is a great motor to start with but i am pretty sure there will be clearance issues due to the extra deck height the 351 has over the 302.

I agree the 393 is a GREAT combo but if you can't close the bonnet........hmmmm

Saying this though there are aftermarket bonnet bulge bonnets for $750 that may give the clearance needed, something to look into if this is the way you want to go

There are ever so many combinations and options, and many many decisions to make...
With this first build Ill go a 347, it just finding the best way to do so..

Once Im in the army and bored of the 347, no doubt Ill be upgrading to something bigger :)

Untill then, as temping as it is, ill stick with the 347, though, even a 347 is out of my budget but Ill make it.
Just have to save more.

Thanks for all the advice. :)

Wait I just re read what was written. 393 cheaper than 347? How so?
Firstly I'd need a 351.
Secondly, yea i wanted the boss bulge bonnet any way they look so tough.

But yes, this is intriguing, please do inform me of the 393...

:D

They fit under the bonnet....my 351 from the XE is now in an EB.
With a Scat crank and stock 351 rods you only need 5.0L pistons(which you had to buy anyway for the rebuild) so the stroker kit is much cheaper.
