Hi all

Just rebuilding a 351 clevo for my xf ghia

at the moment i have fully rebuilt bottom end, hi vol oil pump, decked the block, balanced and machined, gilmer belt and gear drives.

i need info on the heads

at the moment i have a crane solid cam f246 and need double valve springs. im going to put in hardened pushrods also.

i want to put in adjustable roller rockers but the bolt on style by crane. Are these good or do i have to machine my heads and put the stud type..........

the heads will have 4v valves fitted as they are 2v heads with lots of porting too.

carby will be a 750 double pumper...

Crane gear is usually pretty good, so if it is bolt on it should be OK with that combo IMO! 8-)

I wouldn't use bolt on rockers with a cam that big unless they're YellaTerra platinum rockers and they don't just bolt either.
So either machine for 7/16" screw in studs and buy Crane gold rockers and guide paltes and hardened pushrods.
Or Machine for 7/16" screw in studs and bolt on and pin Yella Terra platinums with no need for guide plates or hardened pushrods.
Obviously with an F246 you're going to need damn good pushrods anyway.

decided to go the crane gold roller rockers and machined the heads to fit instead of bolt on style roller rockers.

the 2v heads have now been done with 4v valves and ported and polished.

also have trend hardened pushrods, crane double springs,retainers,guide plates and valve locks.


the next question is what carby to go for... edelbrock, holley, or quik fuel.

it has to be 750 double pumper mechanical secondaries..

intake manifold is a edelbrock air gap

Did you bore the oil drain holes in the valley bigger???....did you clean up the casting mess at the front where the valley meets the timing chain housing area???
A Clevo reving at 7,500rpm with a std oil pump will pump the sump dry, because the oil can't flow back to the sump fast enough. Have you altered the lifters so as to feed more oil to the cam lobes???....or you using a roller cam???

The high volume oil pump is really only for race engines with wider bearing clearances. It's better to use a standard volume oil pump unless you have specifically got race engine bearing clearances. I assume you've fitted an oil restrictor kit - every cleveland needs one

it does have the high vol oil pump and also valey holes have been drilled out to get oil back down quicker.

the motor is getting built by a guy that has built race engines so im sure he will do the right thing.

the cam is a solid flat tappet cam so i guess im using solid lifters too

exhaust at the moment will be genie extractors 3 inch collectors twin ultra flow mufflers to 2 x 3inch dump pipes before diff.

should sound tuff i hope

If that's the case you didn't need to ask any of the questions you did....he should know all of things we suggested already.

i do like to ask these questions because i like to see what people have done and their experiences in what parts they have used.

also i like to make sure that im not getting ripped off.

the guy building it has given his ideas in what should be used. I would like to see if the people out there agree that thats right or to change parts to something else.

for instance , motor builder told me to use bolt on roller rockers to save costs on head machining ( at that time i chosen a smaller cam) and people on here said to use stud mounted and because of that i went for a more agressive cam.

now im happy.

mate i dont rush into things unless im 100% sure its the right way and the best way.

This is what happens when you leave stuff out. We didn't know that you originally had a smaller cam, hence my statement in reference to the engine builder.
All that other stuff is a given...that's what Forums are for....if it wasn't I wouldn't have tried to help in the first place.
