If thats the case then stick to the 302 and work on that as then u dont have to worry about engineering the 351 and so on.
So whats ur budget???

I live in tassie, so i dont have to worry about a engineers cert.
as for budget, i have seen that the 351w reco'd can be had for $3000 to $3500 plus shipping, so when it gets done, i would be allowing on under the $5000 budget. i guess i am spoilt as i drive newer v8's all the time, but i just want my v8 to have the same punch as them.

either way you go dont get something thats full standard, get something rebuilt with way more compression and cam and also little port job of the heads and it will wake it up.
I can see u getting away with 5k for the engine swap but u may have to modify extractors or even buy pacemaker tri y 351 windsor extractors according to another forum member.

Hey mate, i looked into putting a 351 clevo in my eb, after finding out it would be nearly impossible to road worthy and insure it. Then i looked into a 351 Windsor crate engine, I looked in to that i found that they are VERY expensive, just for a long block i think the price tag was around 12k. However if you can get your hands on a good cheap 2nd hand one go fo it.... however, we all look our loud ballzy v8's, if i were you i would be looking into stroker kits for your 5L, you may find it cheaper and also end up with a bit more HP. 347 stroker kits can be had for for around the 3-6k. Maybe your better off doing that, that way iam 99% sure youd keep your extractors and exhaust. There might be a few DIY stroker kit forums on here to, that might save you a little coin. And in the end you wont have to worry about enginering crap (i think).

There's a few 351w and C rego'd EA's and B's in W.A.
The Cleveland one was rego'd with a Thermoquad!?! As you've seen in my XR post even a stock 8.8 :1 comp F-series 351 is going to get you a low 14....probably better purely from an aerodynamic point of view(XR's are not exactly aerodynamic):D and of course a 393 stroker is cheaper to build than a 347 with better durability! |

i didnt know the comp was that low on them
So even just bring the comp up to 10.5:1 with some alloy heads and a nice cam will definatly wake it up and make some nice power figures. Apparently the factory cast iron 351 windsor heads are not worth porting and are very restrictive???

Ive got a EB fairmont ghia 5L and i have been looking into the same thing as you?
Looked at the AU 2 xr8 200kw or 3 xr8 220kw motor trasplant, 351 bronco or lightining motor, ive even looked at putting the 5.4 from the ba in it. I want the same as you as far as performance cause its my daily driver too... Au 2 xr8 200kw is about $1000 with harness, the Au 3 xr8 220kw is about $3000 with harness for transplant. The 351 windsor from the bronco/lightining will cost about $5000 complete but you only need the bottom end so wasted money on unwanted parts, also it has to be the same or newer in date built. The 5.4 is about $5000 but told for its power output it weighs too much like a big block basically with little power. Im really looking into putting the Au 2 xr8 200kw motor and stroking it, i seen a few stroker kits for about $1100 - $1500 on ebay. Machining to suit the stroker kit, roller heads, a mild cam, exhaust, extractors, thermos, chip and a good tune. Thats my preferred set up and it could get you anywhere from 230rwkw up to 280rwkw depending on exact set up,eg. heads, cams... That would give you plenty of punch for a 1500kg car. Easy 12.5 sec car Not bad machine for a daily driver...
