Hey all, its been a while since ive posted on here,
Anyway Ive got a 1994 EF Falcon GLI at the moment as a project car, It was a 4.0l auto, at the moment ive removed the engine and box and have started to remove the front suspension.

I am going to do a V8 conversion to it and I want to keep it auto but with a decent stall and shift kitted box.

Just got a few questions,

Do I have to get the V8 subframe? or can the six be used with different mounts?

Also how does the engine fit clearance wise? Cause I want to keep my a/c.

And will there be enough room for some decent size pipes with the 351w?

Thanks heaps.

There is a sticky at the top regarding a 351 into a ute, A good read. Maybe PM the bloke who did it as he would have more an idea than anyone.

Yeah I know, ive read through that I was just wondering if anyone knew any specific problems ill come into or any tips. Because if its to much trouble ill just get a 5L stroke it to 347 and add a vortech. Was just thinking the extra cubes would Be nice.

The answers to your questions are;
No.
Yes.
Easy except for bonnet and all the 5.0 front dress bolts on and clears everything.
and finally Yes.

No to the v8 subrafme? Or no to the 6 cyl frame?

Sorry Pete but I find it difficult to comprehend when people are asked a question with 2 alternate answers and they are given a simple yes or no reply. Is the yes/no reply to the first alternative or the second?
Anyway........

Good to see you're back with a new smoke packet SQUEAK. What happened to the old one?

No you don't have to purchase a V8 subframe, you can use the six subframe with V8 mounts in an EF/EL

I will add there is ways around the bonnet clearance problems, especially how much low down torque a 351w will have compared to 5.0L

{USERNAME} wrote:
Yes there is plenty of room to fit decent pipes

I will add that using 5.0L serpentine timing cover etc will require a harmonic balancer to suit as the timing marks will not be in the right place on most 351W harmonic balancers plus you can not use the 5.0L 50oz balancer due to all 351 and 302W(5.0L was the balance change) require 28 oz.

When you build your engine(if it's not already a late EFI 5.8) just order an '87-up 351 balancer for it. That will put the timing marks in the correct posi.

Thanks for the replys, thats the info I was after.
Looks like an injected 351 it is then.

Yeah its been a while xcabbi, My old el ended up on NOS and got a top 10 spot a powercruise 6 in the burnout comp then I sold it.

At the moment I have a 2006 BF XR8 Magnet ute. But thats up for sale......

Just have to source an Injected 351 from a 95 on F-truck. To make it legal.

So far it looks like a scat stroker kit, alloy heads, roller cam and ill more than likely go a 4 barrel manifold and use a 4 barrel throttle body. Ill post up the parts when i buy them.

Of course you realise a 4 barrel t-body and intake will make it illegal?
You'll have to run the engine in stock form(very high intake) otherwise it will need to be ADR emissions drive cycle tested. Apart from that a TFS-R with a box upper will be a better choice anyway.

I think you may find registering it in QLD will be easy, as far as the engineer is concerned up here, as I have done it, is that a falcon came with a 5.6 (T Series) and you can stroke the 302 to within 4ci of the 351, and it is from the same family, and everything bolts in the same place, so its not an engineering dilema, just an engine number change. The injected 5.8 litre engine has passed all testing in australia, and as long as you can supply a dyno report showing its as good out the pipe as the 302, shes rubber stamped, and good to go.
I even used a 69 block, its just NOT an issue what year the engine was made.

Yeah I gathered the intake and throttle body would make it illegal. Why would the trickflow setup be a better choice?

And wouldnt it just be a blue slip ( engine change) with the 5.8L conversion?
