I am looking at putting A 351 windsor into A EL. It has already a 5.0 in it. I know ford hes done it but it had a s**t looking commonbore group A bonnet scoop on it. I want it to fit under the bonnet. Has anyone seen it or herd of it done? I am also open to ideas.

Somone around here has done it (with a quite indepth thread with pics too)
you more or less use the 351 block, EFI windsor heads yank 351 intake manifold, and bolt up all your 5.0 acsessories. some bonnet mods are needed to fit the intake manifold but they would depend on the car.

I believe that member 347stroker was completing that or has by now, completed that project. Have a chat to him.

with the money you would spend on putting the 351 in you could do some head work and put a supercharger on it and then it would be putting out 300+ rwkw with less hassels my ford mechanic said that the 351w EFI was worse then the 5.0 he said that they were slower and heaver.

That suggestion was only a matter of time. 'Save' with the purchase of a supercharger (I don't see how), then spend that 'saving' on massive insurance costs. Each to their own i say. While i'm for supercharging myself (can't beat forced induction for guaranteed power to weight results, no loss of driveability, packaging fits under-bonnet etc...), i can see why people would want to put a 351w where a 302w sits. It's mostly a bolt in job (even to the gearbox), owner certifiable with the rta (15% capacity increase), minimal increase in insurance & fuel consumption & same basics to achieving good horsepower (heads, cam, induction, exhaust). So lets answer the question rather than try to change the man's idea. Physically, a 351efi intake won't quite fit under the ef/el bonnet (351 gt40 efi just fits under ea-ed). Many bulge options around but since you want to avoid that a carby manifold is going to be a few critical inches shorter & much, much cheaper. Consider a straight lpg system or efi injectors (some carby manifolds come with bosses that can be drilled for injectors) with a throttle body adaptor & use either with external egr for emissions compliance. Similar average power with the selection of the right performance parts, slight loss low down (only compared to stock efi 351w) but the cam will make the most difference to driveability. What do you think?

You should have a read of this thread on FordForums - 351W EBII, http://fordforums.com.au/showthread.php?p=479033
I think xr9ute has a bit of experience with this as well? The bad thing about the 302w is that the block (especially late model 5.0L), are not that strong. I believe the 351W blocks are much stronger. Drop in a 351W, then stroke it to 420ci+. Streetable 500hp n/a V8 Falcon anyone |

Thanks people I believe xr8ute is thinking like me but I was thinking 600hp. I can get a efi 351 for $1800. Where can I get a blower for that price. Do any of you know if the auto & computer handle this conversion? Also I have A F150. I dragged it against my EL. It weighs 2 t. It was neck & neck all the way. Your ford mechanic has been doing to much reading and not enough driving.

Here try this;
http://www.fordmods.com/forums/viewtopi ... b&start=20 BTW I raced my ute the other week and got 14.00 @ 102mph. I should mention that's in full street trim and fully loaded with tools and tyres and other stuff like a matress and a couple of model aeroplanes still in the back and street tyres on the car. The gearing is all wrong with 3.5's as it's crossing the line at over 5000rpm when peak power is at 4500rpm. The injectors(only 19's) are maxing out at the top of each gear. I could probably knock off a coupla tenths with a gearbox that actually allows fast shifting but then it would cost more than the Toploader too. Next up is some 3:1 gears and some 24's and we should see some 13.7's or so. BTW I have not tuned the car on the dyno yet....that should make a difference too. Now back to the subject at hand 351EL. I hear(from some sources) the BTR can be made to handle the 351 or you can use a 4R70 from a '94 up Mustang and use a '94-'95 Mustang EECIV to control both the 351 and the trans. The Edelbrock Performer that I used is probably your best chance of fitting it under the bonnet although it would'nt support 600hp unless you hogged and welded the s**t out of it. You'd need a Victor #3887 intake to support that much power and it's 12.5" high. Custom lowered engine mounts may keep things under the bonnet for you. Of course if you're going up in displacement you can afford to drop runner length which means a short runner crossram style intake like used on the V8 supercars is a low profile if expensive option. Cheers, Pete. |

Would a well fabbed boxed std 351 inlet work o/k ?? It would require some longer internal runners inside box to keep some torque? Can be fabbed up to keep it all under bonnet..

Thats the way i would like to go with mine in years to come, 351 block stroke it to 420+ cubes. Then bolt the blower on perhaps.
The guy that tuned my car atm, wants to do this to mine, and says it would make an easy 600hp N/A, and if wanted could rev to 7,000rpm+ no problems. |
