ask for Burney at http://www.vpw.com.au
Start with heads similar to these with good safe valve gear etc.. http://www.vpw.com.au/productgroup.asp? ... GrpID=2163

Then a set of C-400 heads from CHI and matching manifold, 4340 stroker kit, 12:1 compression and punch out an easy 700+hp N/A. It should only set you back about $35,000 or so.

Im with BOTTLEDUP and that engine combo is pretty sick.
Id go something like a 427 with AFR 225cc or the Edelbrock CNC 230cc heads with a nice hydrolic roller and make 600-650 flywheel hp. Im sure u will be very happy with that sort of hp and take a while to get used to it and will set u back just over $20,000.00. So u will save the 15k for your gearbox, tailsharft and 9inch and some bigger brakes What car you going to throw the engine in?

forget the bigblocks or dart stuff , if just learning , u can get pavteck or trick mans to build u something great with 15k or so , id suggest getting to know your local machinist or engine builder first and see what he thinks , 393/6 strokers are pretty basic with any alloy head ( yes procomp even ) if not enough money open chamber cast iron will do , if u dont want to go stroker closed chamber - 302 heads are good which up the comp to 11 or so , i personally would go 6 iunch rods with a 351 , to save money acl pistons are ok with a dual plane manifold like performer or something with a decent hydraulic cam will get you about 250hp at treads , id onle use single plane manifold with large cam and higher compression , keep carb as small as possible 600 will still get u that powwer , only go bigger if using single p[lane with big pipes and huge cam , theres a bit of info anyway- talk to engine builder or machinist first , they are not dreamers like poeple on forums

In the grand Scheme of things .. Once all the go fast bits are bought!!
The stronger block is about the same $$ as decent heads.. Start with good foundation.. No point in having $15k invested with out some insurance.. http://www.dartheads.com/products/engin ... rd-blocks/

I agree with EBXR8380 as a full machining and preping the block will set u back $1500.00 plus buying a good block, so u are half way to a Dart block so like the old man says "DO IT ONCE, AND DO IT PROPERLY" and u will never look back and this always works without fail

Here is some combos from Pavtek if you just want to buy outright.
505HP, with std stroke 351. $10500 http://www.pavtek.com.au/index.php?opti ... &Itemid=19 Or 600HP, with a 393 cube stroker $13000 http://www.pavtek.com.au/index.php?opti ... &Itemid=19 Or if your real hungry 728HP $20000 (aftermarket 9.2" deck height) http://www.pavtek.com.au/index.php?opti ... &Itemid=19

Clevo's tend to split bores on high output motors..

My 408 stroker has well over 500, maybe even 600 and after 18 months of thrashing, and many times to 8000rpm, all is sweet. And if RDP can get 1200+ rwhp from one there must be some potential. Don't get me wrong, if you have the dollars and don't mind putting in a motor that never come out in the car, do it. But unless going extreme, its not really waranted.

I new a guy years ago that had 351C's that were not stroked, and making 520HP at the treads, and he had trouble with the blocks warping, and then some fragments of the casting would come off and go through the oil pump, then bugger the donk. That happened several times.
An aftermarket block would be the go, IF money is no problem, like a high Nickel content NASCAR block, SCAT or Lunati crank, Carrillo rods, Venolia or ARIAS pistons, the list goes on........

The RDP was dyno queen.. Not a daily driver!! Possibly not pump fuel either ??.. Also it was hardly a BA with a Clevo in it.. I have 650rwhp out of a 5.4/ 330 Windsor Dart 8.2 block... Gets driven every day..

A week ago you were convinced it had an aftermarket windsor block, yet it has an XD factory cleveland block in it. It runs 8's over the 1/4 mile, yet it is a dyno queen. What does your 650rwhp car run over the 1/4?

The motor in the ba ute is from the cortina mk2 the fastest CLEVELAND powered street car in the world...its a race car and the engine aint no dyno queen! and just to add a little more i have seen the BA on the street i kid you not ! far from its home as well ! i would agree if money is no issue go the after market block just cause you can.... man"o"war maybe? but if you dont want a ford engine by a top fuel motor Brett Stevens will have some for sale money well spent i would say no dyno tunning though ! 5000+ ? and the clevo will also pull the mains out of the block at high RPM but what do you expect from a truck motor ? start with a bubble block (nascar approved) 4 bolt mains, stud gurdle, grout fill it,good stock 351 crank,h beam rods, lumpy top kieth blacks or similar, alloy heads, funnel web,1000 cfm of carby, you just build a nascar engine ! should be good for 500-600 horse power just dont rev it past 9500 rpm and close your eyes when you do..they are casting new cleveland blocks in the us alloy and steel should be good....just remember that pound for pound the cleveland is the most powerfull small block in the world (said by a famous chev man)
