Hey,
I know this isnt the best place for it and I dont want any flames but here goes. One of my mates has bought a VG valiant convertable and it needs more power. A few people have told me that old ford and chrysler parts were fairly interchangeable...not sure if thats true or not. Another mate of mine wants to do a "Overhaulin" job on the old convertable and drop a bigger donk in there without him knowing. Does anyone know if the clevo fits into the engine bay without too much fuss and if the bellhousing can be modified to fit? I'll keep looking for a Chrysler forum and give that a go 2. Thanks.

Yeah I know theyre a good motor, just got a 351 sitting here that would rather be in a car.
Im picking up a 350holley I'll drop on it while he's away and see if he notices the difference when he gets back. I think he'll have to as the carter thats on it now is very sad indeed.

keep the hemi 6
i had a 265 hemi in my chrysler centura with minor head work, cam forged pistons ,balanced bottom end with tripple 45 delorto carbies and it had 250 rwhp about 190 rwkw and it ran a 13.6 1/4 mile in a car that weighed 1250kg... so theres plenty of hp to be gained in these engines...

265 are an awesome engine with so much potential, i've seen quite a few NA in big Vals running 12's.
My mate had a 265 Charger in the early 80's running 12.8. |

265 in a centura is definately near the top of replacement cars if anything ever happened to the EF.

The pick of the 265's is the S-block ELB motor from the CM's. Acceleration to put you back in your seat, and 35mpg. If you cant get an S-block then any 265 will do. Ive had 4 and each were powerful, strong, and reliable. But if you have to make do with what youve got, use the 245 and put extractors on it. Dont even contemplate a ford motor when you can use a Hemi.

Brett, can you tell me about this S-block ELB? How does it differ?
My 265 was actually a 245 bored and what not and fitted with 265 pistons and what not. THe head was an extremely worked 245 head, and this thing flew. |

ELB stood for Electronic Lean Burn, i do remember that much.

The 265 S-block has a forged steel crank so it loves the revs. The S-block I had was in a 81 CM wagon which had the Electronic Lean Burn system on the standard Carter carb. With a set of extractors and 2.5 exhaust it flew even though it was auto( and a wagon). The 265-s block unfortunately mated to the BW 35 not the Torgue Flite, but the earlier 245-S blocks bolted to the Torque Flite IIRC. Other 265's I had with manual and extractors wernt as economical as the ELB but they flew. Just a pity you have to constantly change the idler arms every few months on a Val when you push it around corners. Sorry to turn the forum into a Mopar discussion but what the heck.....Hey Charger... (and all the other models).

BTW the S-block hemi 6's had a large "S" cast on the block.
