Here there was alot of coverage stating that ethanol damaged rubber used in fuel lines, also that fuel suppliers were getting it cheaper, and blending it into fuel then selling at the same price, for more profit.
Hence legistlation requiring its labelling. Also didn't help when most manufacturers said they wouldn't recommend ethanol in blends of over 10%, and then only in newer cars. So not alot of support for it here yet.

grrrr... that's just the sort of nonsense that's keeping big oil in big business. at least we can grow more alcohol.
Here in California we had HUGE issues with a chemical called MTBE (methyl tertiary butyl ether) which is pretty nasty poisonous stuff and was mandated to be added to the gasoline to reduce emissions. Problem was it did in fact wreck certain types of rubber fuel lines. Lots of car fires. It's since started being replaced by an increasing proportion of ethanol and some stations now advertise MTBE free gas. Alcohol can dry some but I think it's a better fuel. |

I've been all for alcohol for a long time. I'm praying for the day that E85 becomes mainstream in Australia.

{USERNAME} wrote: This is interesting. It's odd to me that you guys aren't seeing higher numbers. Over here in the US there's a growing movement of people slapping 5.4L 2v and 4v motors into our 4.6L mustangs. We've been getting numbers like 340rwhp (big cam, so-so intake, well ported 2v PI heads), 290rwhp (stock cams, ported PI heads, mustang intake), 260rwhp (bone stock motor, mustang intake, 2v PI heads). Torque numbers are all at or above 340 for those cars.
What kind of fuel blend do you guys use? Over here we usually have 90/10 petrol/ethanol or straight unleaded petrol turning in those numbers with 91-93 octane. In any case, cam upgrades are a favorite with us in the Mustang crowd. Comp Cams makes some really nice streetable 3v cams that should bump you up 30+rwhp if the intake will flow enough. Our engines are the 5.4ltr 3Valve version of the 4.6 Mustang. I have found the head and cams forsale from Livernoise Motorsport. In the near future I will be investing in this swap. The Intake Manafold is a direcrt copy of the 5.4 Truck manafold (non varible) but made out of sintered alloy. But 270rwhp is good for just a Airhog/K&N Filter and Dual XR8 Catback exhaust. This has not been flash tuned and the petrol was 98 BP Octane |

There's a few guys on ff.com.au, making 240rwkw+ with headers, exhaust, modified air intake and airbox and a flash tune.
So well over the 300rwhp mark. They seem to be a good motor to modify, but the parts for them are so damn expensive. |

You must have one hell of a freak 3v there All 3vs i've come across get around 200rwkw with a blue power/g&d cai and full exhaust and thats with a manual, autos get a lil less. With a tune they normally get up around 235rwkw for manual and about 225rwkw for an auto

why would u bother with the 3v when theres a DOHC 4v motor?

Probably because in "stock" form they have the same torque at 500rpm lower and it starts producing real torque way before a 260 even thinks about it, so for normal street driving it is the better combination, when the variable cam 5.4 DOHC engine is released this should all change.

We have limited 100 octane petrol availability (very limited) and 87,89, and either 91 or 93 at the pump depending on which state you're in. California has the worst fuel thanks to nutty state regulations.
Note also that in Australia we use R.O.N.(Research Octane Number) as the rating system for our fuel. The U.S. uses M.O.N.(Motor Octane Number) So a U.S. MON93 is like our RON98. So in fact you do have the same fuel. Pete. |

Just on the dyno figures again, i was talking to a mate today and we both think the dyno is a lil happy there If a stock man 3v has 170rwkw then i fail to see how an auto 3v with just xr8 cat back and air filter can get 200rwkw. You did say you got it dynod inbetween the ricers, and we all know they like to put up their figures around 20kw

Great numbers mate, I started with extractors high flow cats XR8 cat back cold air & generic tune & only made 198rwkws, now with custom tune 3.73 lsd & a much better 245rwks
