Hey Guys,
I got a 3V that makes knocking noises and it also rattles on startup. I rang Ford and they r telling me on the 3valves it will be the phasors and to replace will set me back $2,700. My question is do they need to be replaced? I can put up with the noise and to be hoenst this cars been a lemon since day one and i don't wanna spend another cent getting it fixed. I was thinking of putting my money into getting another motor for it, like an XR6 turbo engine out of a BF.

Yeah i swear Ford set these engines up so they can wrought you for labour later. I dunno why they chose to use overhead cam V8's. Im gonna take it to a few different mechanics and get some quotes. Fraud want $2700 for the phasors, when BPT will do the tensioners and the VCT Phasors for just over 2 grand. Then one guy is trying to tell me one of the crank bearings has gone, i find that hard to believe. Especially since its only done 140,000 and was owned by a bunch of christians for the first 80,000 of its life. Other option is to buy a wrecked BF XR8 and dump the whole running gear into my fairmont.

I thought it was just the timing chain tensioners that caused the startup rattle.
They are plastic and s**t and break/leak, unless yours have been replaced under warranty already. Maybe should contact Ford CRC, and seeing the KM yours has done and the fact this is a massively common problem, maybe they might come to the party with some warranty assistance. |

But I see your point, it could have other issues. hmmmmm what a bastard of a situation. {USERNAME} wrote: I thought it was just the timing chain tensioners that caused the startup rattle. Yeah they reckon on the BOSS motors its the tensioners, but on the 3v motor its the phasors (that what ford said). Then one place told me it was the tensioners and possibly the Phasors too. Is there any way to find out if they have ever been replaced under warranty? Ford CRC? is that some sort of customer realations deparmtent or something. Cheers Guys,

You could probably go into any Ford dealer and ask them to find the warranty history for you. That side of things is a country wide setup.
And yeah, Ford CRC is Ford Customer Relationship Centre... A useless bunch of f**k, but pretty much the only way to start the application for warranty assistance. 13FORD is the number. |
