Got up this morning and walked out to the 5.0. She cranked but it appeared to be no spark. Had 40PSI at the fuel rail, but refused to bite, any ideas. It just cranked and cranked and cranked, almost killed the battery trying to get it to start, will join NRMA today and call them out if you guys cant help me sort it
Brett

Problem solved, was the very first fuse on the top left hand side of fuse box, not sure what it does, but its rated at 10a and was blown, replaced it and she started first pop

Sounds like the courtesy light fuse blew. It also controls the smartlock, eh.

ef/el series cars use certan inputs from diffrent eletrics EG interior light harness to perform diffrent programming functions.
This is so ecu and smartlock can be roadside programmed by a factory tech who has access to the Ford Confidential books. This also covers starting the veichle with a blank key ect.

Smartlock dosent just kill the starter off. I have discoverd it kills alot more devices around the car than I thought when I had a read of the service manual.

Think of the Smartlock module as the Policeman of the car. Its actually called the BEM, And pretty much everthing goes through it.

The internal light thing may have also been a safty feature. I beleve ur car shouldnt start if it detects a open circuit on the headlight bulbs. :)

It usually starts on start position then stops as soon as you let off the key..As it stops fuel pump when s/l fuse is blown [EB]...
After checking fuses..
Check for spark, I'd suspect coil or front relay is deffective nr battery...All battery connections o/k??...
