Hey boys

Can someone link me to the au series engines explained?

Now my car has 175kws.
My dads 2002 LTD has 185..
Why do the AU3 XR8's have 220kws when they are same engine?

I really only know he sixes well but the AU's had 5 V8 engines.

The 174kw std V8, a 185kw version of that in the LTD and AUI XR8, A 200kw version in the AUII ute, XR8 & T series, A 220kw AUII and a 5.6 litre 250kw in the AUIII.

I am sure it was cam changes between 175 and 185kw and throttle body, extractors and heads and cams to get the 200 and 220 versions and a stroker kit to get the 250.

shouldn't all the AU S1 and S2's have 185KW ( as came in with the late EL XR8s), then the S3's got 220KW, and the S3 T series got a 5.6L @ 250KW.

Minor changes, to the head / intake etc. make the differences.

el2 xr8 didn't have gt40p heads like au. el2 xr8 had explorer intake 7?mm maf, decent zorst, but e7te heads, hence 185kw vs 200kw for au1.

Non-XR spec early AU engines had 175kw while the XR8's and later model non-XR V8's (I believe) got the 185kw engines. Only differences were in tuning and exhaust otherwise the engines were the same.

Series 2 XR8's got the 200kw engines which had a bigger camshaft, roller rockers, more aggressive tuning and better exhaust/extractors. The 220kw series 3 engines then came in with a different cam again, larger throttle body, intake manifold was port matched, the heads got some port work along with larger valves and the EEC was again retuned.

The easiest way to take yours to 220kw (probably above) is change the exhaust and extractors to decent aftermarket items (worth around 10-15kw) and the camshaft/roller rockers (20-40+kw depending on which cam). Don't need to touch your MAF, throttle body etc, they are fine as is.

Just trivia i know.

"T" series should not be confused with a tickford. "T" series are TE50,TL50,TS50 and Pursuit 250. XR8 Tickfords were all 220KW.
The move from 220 to 250 Kw wasn't minor changes the whole engine was reworked using Australian aftermarket crank rods pistons valves springs cam match ported specially desined unique inlet manifold 80mm throttle body completely hand built and blue printed aand balanced.

So basically i need:

Aftermarket headers, extractors and exaust system
Buy a Ford AUIII XR8 Throttle body
Buy a Ford AUIII XR8 MAF (mass air flow senser?)
Get it tunned - performance wise (from where?)
AUIII Tickford Air snorkle (next week - $28.50)
K&N pannel filter (next week - $129)

How much will all this cost roughly? And how much power gain should i get?

Later down the track, how much will the camshaft/roller rockers be?

All 5L AU's run the same 70mm MAF so that doesn't need to change and I wouldn't bother going to the AU3 70mm Throttle body, the stock 65mm one is good for 270kw and I never understood why tickford went bigger.

I also wouldn't worry about getting it custom tuned at least until you get a new cam. Then I would look at a custom tuned chiptorque chip (around $1k) or a unichip (around $1200).

Budget on $1500-$2k for the roller rockers and cam swap.

As for power increases, count on around 10kw for the exhaust/extractors, 1-2kw (if you are lucky) for the snorkle/airfilter, 20-40kw from the cam/rockers and 10kw or so from the custom tune.

Good exhaust (headers, cats, and rear-section) and Camshaft (like Crane 2030 or TFS Stage1), and your engine will be making more grunt than AUIII XR8 220kw. Getting a tune will make even more power again, and improve any off-idle drivability issues caused by the cam

As EDXR8 said, bigger TB is not worth the cost/effort and stock MUF is up to the task and then some.

If you still have a couple of dollars to spend, get the K&N and AUIII Tickford snorkel, but you wont need too.

Yes if you wanted to do things like cam etc then it may be cheaper to get a series 3 engine as you will need to look at a rebuild of yours anyway.

Ported GT40P heads, ported Cobra intake, 70mm TB, 90mm MAF, 42lb injectors, cam, roller rockers etc etc then a Vortech V2 Supercharger @ around 12psi boost and a Tweecer RT for tuning.
