gday people
my old man owns a XY gs ute with the usual running gear - 302 clevo, toploader, borg warner, he has been restoring it on and off for about 13 years, the orginal plan was to re-build a 351 clevo (block and heads) sitting in the shed. but one of dads mates that is a mechanic said the block probely wouldnt no much good as it had been sitting un coverd for so long. the thourght had crossed his mind after selling his xh XR8 ute, to put a 5L fuel injected windsor in to the XY, we have since found a motor in VIC for $3300 and are woundering how much work is involed and will the toploader fit with the motor, any advice would be great
cheers

i hope you like wiring looms, because , if you put one in, if it will fit first :P and work with the toploader, the wiring is going to be a real b**ch, but good luck non the less

plus there's the issue of upgrading the rest of the utes fuel/emissions equipment to the standard of the EFI windsor's donor vehicle

dont condemn the cleveland yet, they're a good block, and it takes more than a few years doing nothing to kill them, and unless theres severe rust pitting in the bores, its nothing that a slight hone or a 10 thou overbore wont fix

We just finished the exact conversion with my mates XY, The donor car was an EB, pre smartlock, the wiring was simple, no hassles at all, a simple bolt in job. XW/XY’s came from the factory with 302w in them and the block is virtually the same in everything up to AU's. His XY came with a Windsor to begin with so if anyone asked we are simply saying that it is the original block with the injection gear bolted to it, that way there is on emission problems. There is no possible way for anyone to check the block/engine number with out pulling the motor out.
Its the best thing he has done to the car, you simply get in, hit the key, it starts straight away, no hassles with it stalling, runs and idles like a new car.

We bolted it up to the original C4 auto, but I’m sure there will be no problem finding a toploader bell housing to suit a 302w. One thing to keep in mind, the injected Windsor’s are balanced a little differently to the older XY ones. So you will need to get the flywheel rebalanced to suit the new motor..

Good luck.
