another posiblity to look at, I had it with mine, is the harmonic balancer. When mine went it ran like it had drop 2 cylinders.

not the harmonic balancer. what the difference between the au 220kw manifold and the standard eb's will they fit on if they are a better manifold

yes, the explorer manifold - fitted to all au v8's, is a straight bolt up and apparently is much better flowing, particularly the lower half.

If you're looking at getting the heads still, I just called Yella Terra and they still have them available. I picked a set up for $700 delivered to Perth. I'd imagine they'd do the same to S.A.

I dunno hey... I'm still uncertain what I should do. The blower is a little way off still so figured I should get the heads, get hold of an explorer intake (from god knows where) and chuck a cam in to keep me going for the time being.
Getting sick of being beaten by xr6s!!! Also looking at getting a T5 upgrade kit from the states...
