One Drone, the 302 is an 8.2" deck height block standard, 9.2" for 351 and aftermarket are 8.2"/8.7"/9.2"

351 is 9.5 and 9.480 decks.....

If you machine .250 off the bosses for the engine mounts, you will only raise deck height by .250.....simple. You may even be able to reduce this to .125 and 3.375....std pipes will then fit easy, as the paceys are bloody close to fitting on 9.5...

Yeah, I'm still tossing up as to whether or not to go with that one. 371ci would be good, but I'm wondering how it will go on the reliability stakes as I would probably still drive it a hell of a lot. Been thinking if I can get one, go with the 3.25 stroke and settle for 347 in that block. Too many options!

363 cubes hands down

Done alot of research and many ppl in the US use this displacement and has been a proven setup.

But are they daily drivers or do they only come out on Sundays and trips to the strip? Reliability is huge for me now. I'll keep looking about and listening to any advice...

Super reliable

Best to speak to a couple engine builders and see what they say. When i wanted to build a 363 both engine builders said the engine will go forever, so it must be a very reliable combination. I know of a 371 being built now and i will be seeing the engine builder soon for a few things. I can ask his oppinion 2.

Also i wouldnt think that there will be much of a difference in relaibility between 331,347 & 363

My concern is with the 3.400 stroke and 5.4 rods needing the 1.090" compression height pistons. There are people who say its all good, while others argue that it's not so good having the pin above ring height. With the 3.250 stroke, it'll leave plenty of meat in the crown of the piston.

I've had a lot of interest in the 371 idea for a while now. I'm interested to know rod length and what the compression height would be for that. That's a 3.470 stroke in an 8.2 deck height!

I realise there are plenty of people using these combos, but I know if there's a chance something can go wrong for me, it will. I want to keep it pretty safe. I think 347 out of the 4.125 bores may be just the ticket. Reduces pressure off the cylinder walls and from what I've been told will behave a lot better. That's only one person's opinion though and I'm sure others will attest to the 363 or 371 can be just as smooth. I think I'm coming close to a decision...

Sam from Westend is building a 371 for the black AU 4ORD which has run 10.4 in Sydney. Speak to him and he is re building his engine. Sam is a top bloke and is more than helpful and he builds sick engines.
